ig: ' I I . W ,kv D r. VV: n ter -9 College includes so many experiences and emotions. It does for those of us on the staff, as well as for our students. Certainly Diane W' ' and I are ww I I O v e rw h e I m e d by the emotions of our first year here at Westmont. I The sadness of leaving Whitworth, the frustrations of moving, learning our way around Santa Barbara, locating a church home for our family, understanding the history, tradition and customs of the college, and trying to formulate the unique and distinctive min- istry that Westmont can provide in the years ahead -these are tasks that have taken time and energy. Yet there has also been the enjoyment of becoming friends with many students and staff, and sensing the bond and joy we can have together. Our first Spring Sing, the missions emphasis week, the Dean's List, Rosella Wilson retiring, the baccalaureate service with Arthur Lynip, and the final faculty-staff dinner on commencement night - I could go on and on: these times were enormously rewarding for us. I suppose the most obvious accomplishment of the year was the County approval of gradual growth to I 200 stu- dents. Yet the by-product of this, our increased contact with immediate neighbors, may be even more important. There has been some opportunity for me to discuss my philosophy of education with faculty and students, and yet it may be more significant that we have set a style of relationship between all of us at the college, faculty and student alike, in which we make decisions and work through normal and healthy disagreements with openness and respect. As the months go by we have become increasingly confident that this is the place we should be, for Westmont is people, and we are very thankful for the many people we have come to know and love here on campus this year. I want to thank the student body for their part in making this such a valuable and enioyable year. Westmont students have been responsible and co-operative. The combination of outstanding student leadership, a quality staff and a new president all added up to a stimulating and rewarding year. . . Bill Lindberg Administration
