aM, The Westminster student spends four short but formative high school years learning not only what is taught and tested in the classroom, but also other qualities and insights that will last a life- time. The most valuable teachers, then, teach about life and living not only through their words, but even more by their example. A teacher who can go beyond the impersonal matter of books and grades in order to talk with, laugh with, and encourage a student is certain to leave a deep and lasting impact. The students of the Westminster Girls’ School are grateful to have such a teacher, who through her inner strength and courage, has shown us each how to live a fuller and richer life. The Girls’ Senior Class of 1979 is then honored to dedicate our LYNX to one who has so unselfishly dedicated her time and loving concern to us ... Mrs. David T. Lauderdale. Dedication 17

1979 DEDICATION MR. AND MRS. DAVID THOMAS LAUDERDALE The Boys’ Senior Class of 1979 would like to dedicate their yearbook to a man who has been called “‘the spirit of Westminster” in reference to the 25 years that he taught here and the influence that he had on us all. In addition to teaching English, he had also been, at one time or another during his career at Westminster, advisor to the Embryo, Student Council, and Interact Club, college counselor, coach of both Varsity Wrestling and Eighth grade Foot- ball, and a Georgia Track Official. But he means more to us than a list of positions. As Dr. Pressley said about him, ‘‘We admired and loved him for his Christian faith, for his subtle humor, for his broad knowledge, for his warm compassion, for his gentle sensitivity, for his strong character, for his profound influence on our lives.” In dedicating our Lynx to him, the Boys’ Senior Class of 1979 would like to use his words, written for the school’s Alma Mater: And as we leave these halls behind, These friendships of our youth, We breathe our prayer of gratitude, We forward go with faith renewed and with: fon. 16 Dedication

strength from each other € ards © = ( The Westminster Schools Christian Preparatory Schools for Boys and Girls Office of the President January 1979 Dear Seniors: This has been a year when we have experienced the extremes of life - joy and grief. We know afresh Solomon's wisdom For everything a season and for every activity under heaven its time... a time for mourning and a time for dancing... We are marked because we knew Donnie MacKaye, Mac Shreve, and David Lauderdale - they were Westminster's finest in Christian character. Their legacy adds depth and solid urgency to our purposes, and in mourning we have grown. You have, time and again, demonstrated that people are more important than achievements, that values like our sense of personal and school honor will in the long run remain imbedded in our lives and are therefore worth the risk of commitment. And the rhythm of life has brought experiences of joy. Beyond the excitement of the wonderful achievement of a State football championship, we see ourselves in a new way - open, too involved to be sophisticated, and just plain happy enough to rejoice in the success of others which thereby becomes the success of all - a community supporting and drawing strength from each other. Westminster is grateful to you for your leadership, for going beyond yourselves to make our School better and more real. No one of us can forget these words we heard in the fall - C. S. Lewis paraphrasing our Lord Jesus, The principle runs through all life from top to bottom. Give up yourself, and you Lis tinds youramerealmiccinuus May God go with you.
