LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT Each course in this department aims to teach the student to understand, speak, read, and write the language he is studying and to become familiar with the history, culture, and literature of the people from whom the language comes. Beginning Latin is required for all eighth graders. After the completion of a second year, Latin may be continued, or a second language may be chosen from French, Spanish, or German. For those who in the eighth grade take French in addition to Latin, a five year program is offered in French. Mlle.
