BASKETBALL XXfestminster had a very successful season in its first year of competition, The record, a losing one, cannot sl1ow the improvement made by each member of tl1e team during the season. Coach Wrigl1t brought the team along very well by heavily stressing the fundamentals of tl1e game. Victories over McCallie and Darlington showed that West- minister will be a factor to be reckoned with in the Mid-South in a few years. Tommy Bates was outstanding in his excellent play, particularly in rebounding and scoring. His point total of 240 for the season was the teams highest. Those following the games will remember well tl1e set shooting and ball handling of Charlie Hunt and Harry Thompson, Alfred Thompson, Charles Fuller, Ivan Allen, and Stevie Stephenson all developed rapidly, And not to be forgotten was the spot help given by McCullough, McCalley, Strickler, and Bugg. Victories were registered over Darlington although Wesminster dropped close ones to McCallie, Baylor, and Georgia Baptist. Coach Wright molded a T-formation built around the running and passing of quarter- 1' back Richard Hffll. The offensive load was shared by backs McGaughy, Sibley, and Davis. In the line Hopkins, Healey, and Prewitt were outstanding on both offense and defense. Kneeling: Shepherd, J. Hull, Prewitt, McGaughy, Davis .... Standing: Dolvin, Coach Patton, Sparks, Kennedy, Brewster. BASKETBALL This year was a formative one for the eighth grade basketball players. Those out for the team had first to be drilled in the fundamentals by Coach Patton before they could start working together as a unit. The losing record bears this out, but it cannot measure the progress made by each indi- vidual player. ,,, ..4..... . This year Westminster added to its ath letic program, the increasingly popular sport of Soccer. Under the direction of Coach Sum ner Williams, the team had a successful season in view of the progress made in play The only game this season was with Mc Callie which the latter won, but we feel that more practice and added experience will
