The 1976 Yearbook Is Dedicated To Mr. Iver C. Ranum, Supt. Cf District if 50 School System lt has been said that there is no honor in one's hometown. But for Iver C. Ranum, who's never moved from his hometown, the honors have been frequent and many. Where else could one rise from bus driver, coach, teacher and principal to become super- intendent of the District within a 15 -year span? And where else but School District 50 has a superintendent held that position for 25 years? Perhaps it can safely be said that his hometown provided the basis for his success as superintendent, for Iver C. Ranum never forgot from whence he came and his success in part must be attributed to his solid values and his friendliness that served him so well during the days when he wore three hats- that of bus driver, and coach. In other school districts superintendents have come and gone, but in School District 50 Iver C. Ranum still enjoys today the respect of his colleagues, his school faculty, and his cityg and the status he enjoys remains un- blemished and untarnished to all who have come to appreciate his genuine concern for every student who has participated in the edu- cational process in District 50. Mr. Ranum began his teaching career in what was then known as Union High School in 1935 after graduating from Luther College in Iowa in 1934. He taught Math, History, Physi- cal Education and was also the coach. He be- came principal of the school in 1939 and was named superintendent of District 50 in 1950. In 1947 he was awarded a Masters Degree from the University of Denver, and has taken additional Work at Colorado University. He is a member of the Local, State and National Ed- ucation Associations and has been President of both the local and county associations, Phi Delta Kappa, the Colorado Association of the American Association of Administrators. Name a civic or charitable organization and at one time or another Iver C. Ranum has served as president or chairman of the group. In addition he was a Scoutmaster, organized the first girl's softball team, was Sunday School Superintendent, and sang in the church choir. In 1950 when Iver C. Ranum became super intendent, the District had three elementary schools, one high school and 1,400 students. Today, the District has nearly 17, 000 stu- dents, 19 elementary schools, four junior highs, two senior high schools, including Iver C. Ranum High School which was dedi- cated in his honor in 1962, and now a new Westminster High School, and a Career En- richment Park. Nine of the past ten bond elections have met with success under his leadership and today the District enjoys the enviable reputa- tion of having the best in educational facili- ties to serve the needs of the 17, 000 students enrolled there. Mr. Ranum attributes this success to the dedicated parents and teachers of District 50. Through the years he has been honored by many organizations, but one of the most trea- sured honors came two years ago when he received the Distinguished Service award from the Westminster District 50 Chamber of Commerce- the highest award given by that organization. Now, he is retiring after 45 years in the District. His guiding hand will no longer steer the course of school District 50, but he can rest assured that he will have left School District 50 with a solid foundation for educa- tional excellence. His shoes will be difficult to fill. No man is so tall as when he stoops to help a child. ii-Qiiqj 9 by -evv w 'mMW.N WIM-mmwm Head Start Christmas Party 1974
