3 A lone courageous man, searching aimlessly, ventured far in to the wilderness of Maryland, to a land where no white man had ever been before. Here the air was fresh and Clear, and Cool streams ba bbled tranquilly as they wended their way over the gently rolling Coun tryside. The land was Covered with lush green forest where game abounded. He had found a savage paradise, a wild, untamed land, far from the Civiliza tion he had known. But this man Could not be frightened. He Claimed the land as his own, and upon it he built a Crude log Cabin. From this single man and his single ca bin, grew what is known today as Westminster.

140-I s Once this first hold had been Hrmly established upon this wilderness, other pioneers followed the trail and settled themselves in the vicinity. They began cultivating the fertile soil and farming the land using all the precious resources provided by na ture for their survival. Slowl y, for over two hundred years, Westminster grew from a mere cluster of several log ca bins to the Westminster of today, a thriving, prosperous city, populated by thousands of individuals, which still preserves its agricultural past in the sprawling farms and pasture lands which surround it and its historical past in the lovely homes and stately mon umen ts, left to us by our predecessors.
