161 .- ' Qnfing ' . Si: Pritwillal TIN L. EARHART EN MR. QU Every public school has many obligations in a democratic society. Those en1'olled represent a major segment of American youth who must soon shoulder their share of the many responsibilities in this growing nation of free people. You as stu- dents must be prepared to analyze critically many local and national conditions. You must be pre- pared to apply your knowledge, understanding, and skills acquired during your school careers, not only for the perpetuation of freedom through the un- folding of truths, but for the improvement of all conditions for all mankind. The humble, but great Thomas Jefferson once said, lf a nation expects to be ignorant and free in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. Q Though the overall challenge is a continuous and prodigious one, we have faith in your ability to view clearly your individual tasks and provide your own positive contribution. J
