The season was highlighTed by a vicTory over William Jewell College, and senior goalie, David Judge's TryouT for The Olympic Team. The Westminster tradition of fine cross country Teams was upheld again this year. However, an injury to senior Peter Jude, and the young composure of both teams prevented full develop- ment of their potential. According to Coach Ault, senior Barth Winkler presented the picture of dedication which he hoped his harriers would mature into. Both men's and women's teams fared well in competition, each sweeping to first place honors in the Southwest Baptist Invitational, Individually, two of the women's team members, Katy Murphy and Sarah Maginnis, placed among the top ten at the District Meet, and Barth Winkler gained entrance to the NAIA National Meet by placing second at District 105 The Theme of The 4983 Blue Jay is The Album. While rain and passing traffic on Westminster Avenue may have put a damper on the rushees' spirit, IFC Rush proved to be as exciting as ever. After four days of visiting houses, 424 men had spiked or been offered bids. Tensions eased into jubllation as the fraternities and their new pledge classes rallied on the Hill. The following weekend was PanheIlenic's turn as the Kappa and Thetas rushed their first pledge classes. Having spent weeks in preparation for the event, the sororities held their open houses at the Phi Delt and Sigma Chi houses and their skit and preference parties at Robertson Dining Hall. Led by LTC Hedgepath, and aided by SG-M Rosario, MSG Zaglauer, SFC Greene, MAJ Stokes, Captains LeGrand, Plusa, and Cornett, ROTC had a busy year highlighted by participation in Secretary of Defense Weinberger's visit in early March. It was an extremely visible group with the familiar rapelling off of Coulter Science Center, weekly inspections on the hill, and the ever-present khaki green. They also disappeared for many weekends of training and field exercises. This May three students, Sam Boyce, Pam Hurt, and Adetunji Joda, participated in Army Reserve Commissioning Ceremony held in the Churchill Memorial. -ig . Sponsored primarily by the SGA, the activities included a casino party in Robertson Dining Hall, a basketball game at which the Blue Jay King and Queen candidates were introduced, and a party sponsored by the WCIA. Like last year, the Westminster Women's Association netted the most profit at the casino party. Their candidates, Judy Mummert and Mark Goddard were crowned Blue Jay Yearbook King and Queen for 4983. Following Fall Rush, the IFC used its judicial power to settle a rushing dispute between two houses. The IFC, in cooperation with the Panhellenic Councils of both Westminster and William Woods, planned and sponsored Greek Games in Short Term.
