Ward This book is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jack K. Ward. Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science. Professor Ward died suddenly of a heart attack in September. He had taught at Westminster for I5 years and was known to all the students for his jovial manner. He had personally established the computer science program at the school with his last accomplishment being the installation of a computer science major. A computer Ward was building with several students had been established as a memorial. The Westminster community will surely miss the dedication to the students Dr. Ward possessed. s 5f2?iS-C1355 E'EEQE?si'K Fiifilllifi lLlE'5E3JlF3Y G lil. r -,. rr. r,, .,-,,-,,-f--7.-M.- . ,,,,..,.,Af- 8 'l ' . an .fi.Q.cu:.-li! The thaw came in March and people moved about again. to the spring musical A Little Night Music, to registration for next year, and to the library for last minute studying for exams. Rain and cool weather plagued a part of short term, but that did not stop everyone from going to the official opening of Spring at Earth Day. A bit of England grew up around the memorial at Picadilly Fair. The usual Short Term parties occurred including KA Old South, FIJI Island and SAE Boxer Rebellion. Of course everyone watched the softball tournaments with great intensity. Finally graduation occurred and the end of another school year. l. Led by President David Nicholson, the Student Assembly fell into confusion over the no-keg social policy and Nicholson's abrasive diplomatic demeanor. Despite a petition drive by concerned students to remove the president, the resulting recall election gave a vote of confidence to Nicholson. SGA's greatest concern centered around the social budget. The Social calendar for the year included a laser light show, comedian David Fry, Watergate alumnus John Dean, outdoor bands and the usual SGA movies. Under a controversial decision, the SGA, under the Executive Committee's strong recommenda- tion, appropriated money from the social budget to pay for a new weight machine to replace the poorly maintained weight machine now in use. SGA's new president, John Landrum, succeeded in restoring student faith in the SGA's ability to serve the student wants. A successful short term social calendar included several high-quality bands appearings with SGA kegs. Prospects for next year look bright under the new leadership. BlueJay basketball this year triumphed again to be one of the high points of varsity athletics at Westminster. Many will agree with Coach Devaney, that the team was much improved and enjoyed better basketball talent. Although the BlueJays were better, they faced new and tougher opponents. Playing better teams each year has raised the BlueJays in district standings but left the team with an II-I5 record. The Westminster team is a young one. Junior Glenn Wrap led the team in scoring with I9.5 points average a game. Juniors Keith Prokop. Mark Borchers, and Tom Berry also sparked the squad with consistently good performances. Another player to watch in the future is Freshman Mark Roberts who has surprised everyone. With the loss of only one senior, Bill Gilbert. the squad with second year Coach Dave Devaney, should be a winner. 9I . ,.. ..,, . ,. '..,..4 ..-1-ad... ..,,.-as .fe .MNA-.w,.... The bidding starts high for these girls - E ,,.,5,,,,,: 'FFR .,.a N x, ble r til This year's second annual Earth Day to increase awareness of the world hunger problem was a huge success. Activities included the film The Spirit of Nature, the Earth Day carnival, a meal skip, an alternative meal, and a school wide forum to discuss the hunger problem. The ever popular carnival had returning the favorite booths of last year such as the slave auction and the pie throwing booth. As a special attraction the SGA sponsored the music of Freedom Sounds. Earth Day is a fun way to spend a spring day while learning something at the same time. .fa ' I Senior l Memories The Way We Were Memories. Like the corners of my mind. We know we have made some people mad, others happy. We take credit for our mistakes but the praise for anything going right must go to the students of Westminster. Special thanks goes to Jill Bock, who was there with pictures when we needed them. Wally Mallins, the Walsworth representative, Scott Stahlman and Polly Donnelly, who provided special pictures, and especially the Bluejay staff who put up with me all year and who gave their all for the book.
