It endured a Civil War, two World Wars, the Great Depression and over 10,000 students. It seems Eitting that now, on our 125 birthday we sit back and reflect for a short time where we came from. Though a small school Westminster had more than her share of great moments. It is our hope that in these next Eew pages we can glimpse a view of the past. Its 1,200 in- habitants knew that the day marked not only the anniver- sary of the founding of the nation but significant begin- nings for their community. Ela orate ceremonies had' been planned to lay the cor- nerstone for a new P educational institution which the Fultonians were proud to have in their midst. Long before dawn had broken the eastern horizon the inces- sant discharge of guns proclaimed the approaching Jubilee. l-lostesses with overnight guests arose early to see to the needs of family and visitors before the ' festivities began, while wagons from the surroun- ding countryside crowded the narrow dirt streets of the little town disgorging passengers eager for a long day of activities. On the warm bright July morning in question the in- habitants of Fulton and their visitors quickly gravitated toward the court house square. The local paper reported that every, shaded place and every building in the vicinity was densely crowded as an estimated 3,000 persons waited eagerly for the day's activities to begin.
