DEDICATIQ The ideal college professor is one who is an excellent scholar, a fine teacher, and a leader in student life and extracurricu- lar activities. Perhaps the ideal professor has never existed, but to get an idea of what he might be, one should look at Bill Parrish, Dr. Parrish began his teach- ing career at Westminster in the fall of 1955 as one of the youngest Ph.D.'s ever turned out by the University of Missouri. His forceful, dramatic, and lucid way of lecturing immediately attracted students to his classes in large numbers, a condi- tion which has persisted ever since. In addition to his full teaching load in the History Department, he has directed in- dependent study and has had a major role in developing the History Depart- ment into the excellent department that it is. Dr. Parrish, whose specialty is Civil War history, is a prolific writer, having turned out three books and numerous articles since he has been at Westminster. This past year he was general chairman of the Fulton United Fund. At Westminster Dr. Parrish has been in- volved in many activities. He currently serves on the Steering Committee of the faculty, the Academic Opportunities Committee, the Professional Ethics Com- mittee, and the Scholarship Committee, of which he is chairman. He also serves as college historian. He has been active in the Westminster Faculty Christian Fel- lowship and has served as president of the state organization of Faculty Chris- tian,Fellowships. He has been a sponsor of a great many different extracurricular activities, the most prominent among which are Alpha Phi Omega, Omicron Delta Kappa, and the Young Republi- cans. which he has been engaged. Perhaps the most important thing to note about Dr. Parrish is his gift for counselling students and his generous use of his time in this endeavor. In appreciation of his total dedication to Westminster, his high standards of scholarship, and his exciting and inspiring teaching and counselling, we dedicate this yearbook to Dr. William E. Parrish.
