Hull, B. Coffey, M. Satz, Coach Kanehl. The wrestling season at Westminster was sporadi- cally successful during the 1964-1965 season. In com- piling a 4-5 record, the team worked at various times with losses of three first-position men to in- jury or sickness. Most successful point winners for the year were Eric Trernayne at 130 with an 8f--'fl record and David Morrill, team captain at 157, with a 7-2 record. Bill Scruggs wrestled the full year at 177. Rick Brunk at 167, Marty Satz at 137, and Joe Hull at 147, were all Freshmen starters with some of the best ability ever seen here at the college. They will all keep the team a threat for the next three years. Bob Coffey was out of action much of the season, but still displays the smoothest style of any man in the conference. Much shifting was done among the little men, Mike Deiiel, Rusty Bennett, and Tom Weil, as they held down the 123-pound class. POOL RECORDS BROKE BT SWIMMERS l L. to R., B, P. Fowler, B. Johnson, N. Vandenburg, T, G. Chalmers, L. Seaman, R. Krempin, Coach Kanehl. The Westminster swimming team met tough com- petition this year amid an active conference. The Blue Jays, whose virility was injured by the loss of a well rounded senior class, found their depth weakened. In spite of the short-coming, several school records were set at the home pool. Jack Cam- den set a new school record in the 200 yard breast stroke and Rick Krempin set records in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle. The team looks forward to a strong freshman class to strengthen its standing in the 1965-1966 season, when the men will be led by Rick Krempin as they were this season by Jack Camden. jA rs FLT HIGH A T SEA SON'S CL USE L. to R., B5 B. Nixon, B. Monroe, T. Howell, D. Birdsong, D. Deschamp, T, Coach Flynn, D. Jennings, S. Vogeding, A. Michel, C. Read, R. Hamilton. The Westminster basketball team lost another bid for a winning season but finished with a respectable 7-12 record, including a tie for fourth place in the MCAU Conference. The Blue Jays started out slowly but Hnished strong- ly by winning four of their last five games at home. The Blue Jays were hampered by the injury of Rick Cozad, a 6'6 freshman forward, who played in only three games. Also, several key players dropped out of school at mid-year and thus weakened the Blue Jay bench. On the brighter side, several players ranked high in MCAU Conference statistics. Junior Andy Michel led the league in rebounding for the second straight year. Freshman Bob Monroe led the league in free-throw shooting. The consistent scor- ing of Clayton Read and Bob Hamilton helped keep the Blue Jays in contention throughout the season. in 1 fi we 2 1 s l 5 11' y FL V .fgi 5 i f - gr ,,, ,Lf , i .2 MWQM .,,L3gfs.,:i' 3 W . The Blue Jays finished this year's diamond competi- tion with a 5-win, 8-loss over-all record. The Jay's were 4-6 in the Hnal MCAU standings. The season was somewhat disappointing as the Jays, who had several returning lettermen, were expected to be fighting for the conference crown. Freshman catcher Bill Nixon led the team in hitting with a .360 mark and was followed by Senior Robert Hamilton who led the team in home runs. Most of the pitching was handled by right-handers Walt Zimmerman and Bob Monroe, and left-hander Clay Read. The outlook for next year's team looks promising as the Jays lose only 3 members off the year's young team. my URIE HURT CI DER CHA CE L to R, B5 R. Livermore, S. Downs, B. McSweeny, B. Muehlhauser, E. Hewlett, J. McDonald, Doc Schweitzer, The 1965 season was disappointing for coach Ray Kanehl and his Westminster College track squad. With only a few veterans returning and a limited number of new men to give the squad depth, the team found itself with victories over only Illinois College and Tarkio. Fine efforts were made by seniors Rich Allen, Bill McSweeny and Dave Knarr. But with the return of ever improving men like Joe Sturgess, Rick Schuepfer, and newcomers Jim McDonald, Bob T, D. Knarr, J. Sturgess, R. Allen, R. Schuepfer, A. Michel, D. Gibson, B. Scruggs, R. Sanders, Coach Kanehl. Muehlhauser, Doug Gibson, Erik Hewlett, and Scott Downs, Westminster can look forward to a finer season next year. The highlight of the season came at the con- ference trackmeet, where Veteran Dave Knarr to- taled 13 points, placing in four events and setting a new conference and school record with an effort of 43'1W in hop, step and jump to give Westminster a fifth place in the standings. NETME REEL ILD WH L. to R. B5 R. Selby, M. McNeese, D. Handel, K. Masterson, T, P. Barnes, G. Holske, T. Horn, Coach Sloss. The tennis team, composed of eight men, closed its season with a 4-3 record. The wins included defeats of Culver Stockton, Wfilliam Jewell, Missouri Valley, and Rolla. Defeated by Missouri University, Drury, and Central Methodist, the team began to prepare for the conference tournament. Pete Barnes, Tony Horn, and George Holske were eliminated in the quarter-finals, Lee Selby was beaten in the semi- finals, and Doug Handel and Mike McNeese made the finals before meeting defeat. Holske and Horn, winning in the doubles, brought the tournament to a fourth place standing for Westminster. The season ended, despite difficulties, with a favorable showing. jA rs CA PTURE THIRD L. to R., Coach Gordon, Carley, C. Kalen, Edgar, T. Carlock, B. Buchanan, P. Alex- ander. Westminster finished third in the MCAU to Drury and William Jewell. It was a rebuilding year for ,the Jays, who were hampered by graduation losses land the ineligibility of letterman Ray Neidergerke. LThe linksmen still managed their traditional win- ning season, however, and prospects look exceedingly bright for next year. Four letternien, Carl Kalen, Jim Carley, Bill Buchanan, and Jim Reynolds, will return. Jim Edgar, a four-year letterman, will be the only team member to be lost through gradua- tion. TENNIS Again a good year on tl! courts led the Chis to a other plaque, this one for ti second straight year. Fresf men Waddel, and Bur with upperclassmen Strn: and Schott were what w needed to pull another got season together and tl plaque. HO EI SWIMMING The Chis, with another u defeated record, were u: doubtedly the strongest tea in competition. BETA THE TA PI Alpha Delta is not only the oldest fraternity at Wlestiiiinster, but the oldest chapter of any fra- ternity west of the llississippi river, being founded in 1868. Thus, a long line of traditions, of which we are all proud, has been built up. These traditions in- clude being on top in all activities. Perennially, the Betas rate at the top scholastically, being the proud winners of the George H. English Scholarship trophy which we won again this year. Our athletic teams consistently do well, winning the basketball plaque this year with an outstanding teznn. The Betas also boast of more than thirteen varsity letteimen. lN'e pledged this year what we feel are the hnest of the freshman class. This feeling is justified since the Beta freshmen won the lnterfrzxternity Council Pledge Class Scholarship Award for having the highest pledge class average on campus. These men will carry Beta's fine traditions with an indomitable spirit into Alpha Deltals second century, which we are sure will be as great as the hrst. ,Wu ,. 'W in .g,g. K , . The lst semester Vice-President Cr officers were President Carl Gill, Vice-President Turnquist. Steve Vogeding and Treasurer Chuck Hall. The The highlight of the past year for the Delts was the visit of brother Tom Clark, Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. Justice Clark was on campus to commemorate our silver anniversary. Athletically, the Delts have again proven themselves to be able competitors by winning the coveted Dadis Day athletic trophy, and by going undefeated to our second bowling plaque in three years. In softball, the Delts finished second, and were for- tunate enough to place 5 men on the Intra-Mural all star team. 124 Here at Delta Ornicron we are very proud of the scholastic standards which we have achieved. The Delts have been among the top 3 fraternities on the campus in each of the past 6 semesters, and were the campus leaders 2 of those semesters. Though Delta Tau Delta has excelled in campus ac- tivities, it has not ceased to better relations with the townspeople of Fulton. We have participated in such activities as our annual heart fund drive, painting the city jail, and giving a Christmas party for underprivileged children. ,gh 4 2nd Semester Oflicers were President Carlton King aig Peacock and Treasurer Carl .p . - a -' K-ni M G EB W HOLYOKE JR. enwnnos EAL ' s E Ms EE 'a 3 5 W 5 Ili iv.. UP KAPPA ALPHA ORDER 'Q fa 4525 wfwx Alpha Eta chapter of Kappa Alpha Order has been on the campus of Wlestminster College for seventy- five years. In this three quarters of a century we have contributed much to the institution in many various ways. This year has been one of the best for the Alphas, XVC have contributed much in the way of service to the community: to mention a fewg XN'e contributed more than 95110.00 to a special welfare fund in Calla- way County. conducted a cancer campaign which totaled over 350000, did volunteer work at the state hospital, and many more acts of service both to the community and the college. The support we have given to the school has also been outstanding. Our enthusiasm for the varsity athletics especially during basketball season has done much to promote school spirit. In the future the K.A.7s look for many more years of service to the school, the community, and the fraternal system. Thus, put at a definite disadvantage, the house nevertheless rose above this unforseen barrier, and has successfully completed another year as the top house on campus. With DumboH nobly taking over HStag's', position of prestige, the house was thus enabled to assume its superior position in scholarship, intramurals, and Brotherhood. Com- munity Service Day was truly a memorable one. Brother Wfarren Hearnes, Governor of Missouri, was the keynote speaker and his speech climaxed a very successful day. Our social life was highlighted by the ever popular SnowboundU, and a new twist was added to our social calendar this year with the West- ern party. These are but a few points which illustrate the spirit of Phi Delta Theta. The spirit which prevails in Missouri Beta couldnit possibly be explained in the confines of this one small paragraph, but after all, sometimes words alone are inadequate. 2 E i i 22 Q GL 1? arm .35- mf if ' x kv L 1 , .. if W 3? Since then the men of this fraternity have exhibited great responsibility both in class leadership and campus activities. The ability of the Fijis to administer in these positions is clearly reflected in their scholar- ship which is the prime objective of the fraternity. Relief from the pace of academic pursuits is found in the Fijiis social life, highlghted by the Purple Garter Party and the infamous social probation. The fraternity takes pride in its social service pro- grams. The annual canned food drive and the emergency blood bank program have been of great service to the community. This is easily discernible when one looks at the Scholarship Trophy the Sigs held for three consecutive years, Athletic Supremacy, and this year, four plaques in intra- mural athletics. This proud record was a great aid to us in Rush, enabling us to pledge an outstanding group of men, of whom twenty-four were initiated this spring. Through the efforts of all our brothers, both old and new, and with the brotherhood coming from having members of diverse backgrounds working toward a common goal, Sigma Chi will continue to forge ahead. This past year was no exception. Ably led by Dave Jackson and Har- vey Pettry, we became the largest house on campus, acquired an annex, and a black Labrador mascot, Sarge. Our basement was panelled and tiled to make an excellent rec-room. Perhaps with a little more luck our three second places in Intramurals Cten- nis, swimming, and handballj would have been firsts. We contributed more than our share of men to the varsity teams. On 'The Hill , we had both the Editor of the Columns and the Editor of The Blue lay. Scholastically, we kept up our enviable record. The traditional log slabs-and-cedar motif for the Christmas Dance was again well-received. Perhaps the highlight of the year was the meeting X with the Fulton Anti-Snowball League. With this past, we have great confidence in the future. l l inns. gd' J 1 '--ala ---- ui-gn-'ii ,ii Ji? K 5 W ff' 21 fm W: Q1 f-,1 'S f , 3 A ' 'gww f , , W ff 'gl ,QP if J . X,.W .'
