DEDICATION Few factors have so directly and mdirectly contributed to the life of Westminster College as has the fraternity system The social, cultural, and athletic endeavors of Westminster have been constructed largely on the framework of the seven nationally famous fraternities and the one out standing local fraternity represented and situated on this campus The list of fraternities represented here would compare favorably to any list of the top such organizations in the nation Wllh regard both to social rep utatxon and academic achievement These umque organizations foster those concrete and general characteristics in individuals which constitute what we in this country believe to produce good citizens of America and of the world, namely respect for others, honest friendship, individual dig nity, integrity, and lntellectual, physical, and spiritual realization To say that at times there may exist in fraternity life certam excesses, transgres sions and evils, IS no more than to say that these things are found ln the human makeup and will exist until man has breathed his last The pomt worth considering is that shortcomings exist in fraternities ln spite of, rather than because of their ideals, standards, and values Fraternities pro vide for the orderly and democratic congregation of individuals who freely choose to associate with each other in a spirit of mutual respect and good W1 The 1959 Blue Jay IS proud to dedicate this publication .to the eight fraternities which add so substantially to the greatness of Westminster 2

PREFACE It is my hope and the hope of the Blue Jay Staff that this 1958-59 Blue Jay will become an adequate record of this great year at Westminster. A yearbook can he considered as a mirror of the school it represents. I only hope that the image I have produced is a clear one and successfully portrays Westminster College. Many things were left out due to space limitations but nevertheless I feel sure that the subjects and pictures herein are of a sufficiently wide-spread nature so as to adequately and purposefully fulfill the requirements of the Blue Jay. Many thanks are due to my faithful staff, Mr. Applehaugh for his pic- tures, Mr. Hook of Myers Yearbook Company, Mr. Jack Marshall, faculty advisor, ,Iohn Cromwell, Dick Metz, and especially to Business Manager and Assistant Editor Jim Lacy. The hook would not he possible without such competent help.
