The following year funds were secured for a dormitory. The most import- ant event of this year was the successful completion of negotiations between the two synods for co-operation in the ownership and support of the college- a form of co-operation that is in its nature permanent and which more than doubles the constituency of the college, both in numbers and in resources. I111903, President MacCracken resigned. Dr. I. J. Rice, vice-president of the college, was acting president during 1903-4. On October 22 and 23, 1903, the semi-centennial of the founding of Westminster College was celebrated. The first day was occupied by the alumni meeting. In the evening a recep- tion was held in the new dormitory-named Reunion Hall in commemoration of the union of the two synods in the management of Westminster. On the day following the semi-centennial exercises proper were held in the Presbyter- ian church. JOHN A. Dr. Kerr was formally inaugurated into oliice on October 31, 1905. Dur- ing this year a physical director was added to the faculty. Dr. Kerr had realized the need of 3300.000 additional endowment when he first came to XX,6Stll1ll1StGl'.' He now took steps toward securing it. The campaign for raising S100,000 in St. Louis began in April, 1906, and at this time of writing has practically been secured. Considerable progress has been made toward LIBRARY securing the additional 3200000 in Missouri. The new presidentis house, The Wasliiiigtoii VVest Mansion, is the first tangible evidence of the St. Louis effort. The faculty was increased in September, 1906, by the addition of another professor of science, Professor David MacLeod Davidson, his chair being chem- istry and biology. The curriculum has been remodelled C1907j. An advance has been made in scholastic requirements, and the college course based upon a four-year course in the academy, instead of three years as formerly. The 23
