If Greek societies are reduced to their extreme simplest form, area they nothing more than a group of people pooling resources to provide com- araderie and good times that the school does not spoon-feed its students. What ' s so repulsive about that? As for the acusa- tion that Greeks are too closed and restrictive in their membership— isn ' t Greek society very much like real life. When you go looking for a job, the idea is to sell the company on yourself while the company is trying to sell itself to you. Isn ' t this exactly what rush is? Joining a fraternity is one of the best deci sions I ' ve made in four years of college. There are certain ob- jects I have of yours. Before you get them back, I want you to dust my floor and shelves and vacuum my rugs. Your loving mom, Debbie Malcomson I 47 HISTORY DEPARTMENT FACULTY Dr. Arthur L. Jensen, Professor; Mr. Pirie K. It ' s hard to say goodbye to a character on closing night. It ' s almost like you lose a close friend— if you get a chance to play her again— it won ' t be the same. You live this person— then she ' s gone. Gather yourself up again. That ' s why actors, I feel, have so many identity crises. A lot of actors go on stage because they want the love of the audience. Everybody wants to play a roll the audience would sympathize with. It you ' re there for applause then you ' ve got it all wrong. Joan Varnum 92 93 Is it possible to create a kaleidoscope of life? The feeling that I get from being able to convey in meaningful terms the words of another is difficult to express. It is thrill- ing to know that through interpretive reading I can communicate in a meaning- ful fashion, concepts and ideas of great authors, while at the same time eliciting from the listence emotions and implica- tions which are not ordinarily obtained through casual reading. The benefits are intangible in many re- spects. It has helped me to be a more outgoing person as well as aiding in broad- ening my knowledge of authors and their works. — Sheila Edmonds 95 People look at this as a college station— but in comparison we are respected in the tops of college stations. We appeal to all sorts— we ' re diversified and so are the kids that work here, and when you combine them it ' s good! — Dick Faust I ' ve always been interested in radio and TV. TV and radio can be done here rather well providing that a small amount of money is given for that cause and that people don ' t take it as a joke. Others such as George, Rich, Mr. Henderson, Mr. Sands and those whose names I cannot re- member at this instant helped to produce this book.— Editor 121 122 It is said that to get to New Wilmington from Pitts- burgh one drives up 1-79 until it rains, then turns left. Too often that ' s exactly true. How to succeed at W.C. 1. Laugh at what the professor thinks is funny. 2. Be conspicuous. 3. Be silent. 4. Take lots of notes. 5. Know what the professor wants. 6. Don ' t read. 7. Memorize. 8. Find somebody who had the course last year. 9. Think? — the students of Chemistry 31 127 For some reason people expect the yearbook editor to wax philosophical on the last page of the yearbook. Since I nearly flagged Philosophy, I won ' t attempt any intellectual, philosophical comments. This year we saw an innovation at W.C.— intervisitation. Six students were promptly thrown out for violations. We had the opportunity to vote for the President of the United States. Nixon won by the largest landslide in history and was implicated in the largest political scandal in history. Our dear Student Senate decided to pick up the tab for a drinking violation on campus and the Administration refused to validate the check. This brings me to one of my favorite subjects— Student Senate. You most likely have noticed how small this book is. In May, 1972, the S.A. slashed the ARGO ' s budget by 50%; the size of this book is the result of this cut. Well over 2000 pictures were taken to produce this book; innumerable man-hours were spent to organize the material. All this to create one hundred and twenty-eight pages of memories. Hopefully, five, ten, twenty years from now you will pick up this book and something, some picture, some caption, will spark memories, of your piece of life here in Paradise Valley.— Jim (Cricket) Williams June 11, 1973
