Dear Friends: You will not believe it years from now. That is one of the reasons this book is published — it will prove you did look like that ten, or twenty, or forty years back. Time has a way of dulling the edges of even the sharpest memory. Today you know all the names. Today you are familiar with all the scenes. But time will treat you as it has all others. Each day ' s events must take precedence. Your yesterdays will recede in the inexorable march of time. When you uncover this volume some years hence, it will have far more value for you than it does on your Graduation Day. We wish you every good thing. You have withstood the erosion that decimated your ranks. For various reasons some of yo ur team- mates have fallen aside: some because of financial reasons, others in their haste to take life by the forelock, many could not discipline themselves to do the necessary work. You stood up to all the tests. It is fitting and proper to wish you every success in life. Far more important than my good wishes is the self-discipline you have exhibited. It will carry you far. Hold in your memory: The tower of Old Main The chimes that spoke the passing time The professor who would not let you loaf The quiet resolves you made in chapel The friends you had for pure friendship sake The good idea that caught your fancy The book that thrilled you through and through The most decent and unselfish thing you did A great host of people — your parents, Westminster alumni, and friends of the college who, working together, made your education possible. We have sought to do more than sharpen your mind. We have earnestly tried to commend to you the self-disciplines of God. It takes experience, some trials, some heartaches, in order to know the abso- lute necessity of faith in God. You will soon be doing your utmost to transmit your Faith to your children.
