Profiles Ken Tanis - A Principal of Principles Born in Patterson, New jersey, Mr. Kenneth Tanis was raised in a strong Christian home along with one older sister. There was plenty of discipline in his family but also lots of family love. Mr. Tanis became a Christian at the age of seventeen after being greatly influenced by a minister whom he listened to on the radio. At the age of nineteen he made a total emotional commitment. Mr. Tanis was very busy during his high school days. Athletics dominated his interests especially cross country and basketball. Mr. Tanis was also president of his senior class. In addition, he held down a job and had a steady girlfriend throughout high school. Mr. Tanis went to Calvin College to get a B,A. in Political Science and Social Studies. Then to Michigan State to obtain a M,A, in Secondary ed. and Administration. After going with Willie for three years, they were married following graduation from college. For the next five years Mr. Tanis taught in a public school in Michigan and coached basketball and track. This is Mr. Tanis' eleventh year at Westminster. Mr. Tanis' fav- orite pasttime is spending time and traveling with his wife and 'ive children, ages 4-13. When asked his desires for the students at Westminster this year, Mr. Tanis replied: I hope that the students of Westminster will appreciate how richly they are blessed. I hope to see every student involve himself in meaningful relationships with others. Thirdly, I hope there will always be a relationship with teachers and students of mutual love and respect. 16
