SPORTS We Began Slowly, But Finished Strong We began slowly. but finished strong. Only two of our members had one full season's experi- ence before this year. yet the team overcame inexperience with a lot of hard work. We won our last three meets which enabled Westmin- ster to be one of the two Class A teams to qual- ify for the AA State Meet in Jacksonville. Our two exceptional runners were Dan Dun- woody. a Senior and Paul Slayden, a Junior. Both were named tothe first team of the Gulfs- tream Athletic Conference. They were also two of the top ten distance runners in the city of Miami. Dan and Paul combine ability with willingness to work, determination and desire to achieve goals. Each year wc entrust our season to the Lord. He blessed with health. strength, and ability which we tried to develop in such a way that His name would be glorified, our school's name honored, and our team growth and fel- lowship enhanced, and our individual talents matured. 3-1-I-7t'0yM ZW? The scasons's only loss came at the hands of Loyola in a 3-overtime thriller in the third game of the year. Leading the Warriors to a 24 win - one loss season, which included 22 straight wins, were Chairman of the Boards Richard Ccntsch, Pistol Pete Cabrera, Ray Cortese, Rick Dicsmone, and Monte Couch, all seniors. Robbie Lungren, a promising junior guard, suffered a serious knee injury which forced him to sit out the last half of the season, after playing a key role in building team momentum. This season the J.V. team scored 16 wins and 5 losses. Outstanding prospects on the .l.V. team this year included Bill Charlton, Jeff Hock- rieter, and Scott Johrde, who led the team in scoring. They certainly have a challenge next year filling the shoes of this years outstanding varsity seniors. fmofK1447.4.Q4if7faf The Basics Slrengihen a Growing Team that fe Y. ,I wi:i' A , Yi 'l 'fr' 5 rr ,, -T1 f LI' f --KJ ,, , 1 , JUNIOR HIGH BASKETBALL TEAM: Front Row: Scott Caldwell, Jeff Reynolds. If you meas- ure it by individual achievements, we were more than successful. If you measure it by facilities, organization and discipline, I believe we were the best. To me however total success is being recognized that you are the best that there is. and that means being State Champions. Therefore, I do not believe our season was a total success. I am truly grateful for the outstanding contributions of our six seniors. Chris, Greg, Bill, Steve, Ralph, and John. Your efforts in the final game showed me that you had learned the lesson of giving every- thing you had, becausc it could be the last time you will have the chance.
