The English courses taught the student grammar and how to apply it to his writing. Different types of literature were studied. Some works that were studied were acted out as plays. Creative writing was offered as an elective. Working on the Pawprint and the Optime allowed the student to use his literary skills. Interested students had a choice between three foreign languages, French Spanish and Latin. French and Spanish can be taken for four years while Latin is only offered two years. These courses provided a basic understanding of the skills in writing, reading, and speaking the language. The student also acquired an understanding of the foreign country's history, culture and way of life. There was an abundant number of varied courses offered by the Social Studies Department. Some courses taught geography and how people live in other countries. There were courses that dealt with our history and our present day problems. Psychology and Sociology were also offered. ln Bible the student studied and learned about various Old and New Testament books. These books took on a deeper meaning as the student related them to his life. There were also personal growth courses which catered to the questions and problems in a student's life. Biblical solutions were sought for these problems. Electives in Evangelism, parenthood and family life completed a well-rounded program. i 1 7
