Then came a close defeat by Midland in a hard fought contest, the final outcome being 12—7. There still remained a good chance for Westmar to gain that championship. Seriously hampered by injuries the Eagles traveled to Bethel for a non-conference game and returned with a 13—13 tie. The following week the Westmar Eagles went up against Dana and pulled out a 14—0 win giving the Eagles a 4—1 record. This set the stage for Westmar’s contest against Yankton, who had pre- 147 viously beaten Midland. In order to get their lions share of the conference title, the Eagles needed a victory here. But first Westmar warmed up for Yankton by de- feating Tarkio 46—26 in a non-conference game. The game against Yankton was. the most exciting game of the season. With only a few minutes left to play Westmar scored the final touchdown and extra point to come away with a 14—13 victory. Westmar’s conference championship for the second consecutive year was a first for the conference. Thus the 1965 edition of Westmar’s fighting Eagle football tearn closed with a victory ride for the coach and a second straight gold football. ROW 4—Terry
