Westmar College Le Mars, lowa Editor ... Evelyn Roepke Ass't. Ed. . Joseph Gayley Bus. Mgr. . Preston Kragt Love Westmar We We love Westmar because of the fellowship we we find on the campus. It is here that we relax around the dining hall tables, sit onthe steps of Wernli Hall to chat with that special friend be- fore classes start,or heat acan of soup to start a bull session atthe end of the day. The fellow- ship of Christian friends as well as the oppor- tunities for meditationand prayer isa priceless gift at Westmar. From the exuberant cheers at a football game to the silent prayers in the Up- per Room, Westmar is good. We love Westmar because we are considered individuals with personal problems andabilities. We are given the opportunity to practice our profession before we are outon our own. While we struggle over lesson plans, drop acid on our trousers, and blacken our thumb nail witha hammer in the shop, we are beginning our ca- reer in this world of work. Perhaps even more than that, we are becoming more effective citi- zens in our nation by striving toward a more perfect student government with Christian prin- ciples. We love Westmar because it presents us with opportunities to advance our cultural training. Concerts, book reviews, and coffee hours play a part in preparing us for our life in this con- temporary universe. It is here at Westmar that we are giventhe privilege of seeking the beauty inthe quietness of booklore or in the triumphant voices of the choir as the Halleluiah chorus is sung. Westmar is a busy school with studies and or- ganizations, but somehow we find time to go ice skating on the frozen lake, or stroll about the campus in the twilight of early spring, or race to the tennis courts so we will be able to play just one more game before the sun goes down. It is the memories of these little things which make our thoughts of Westmar happy. We love Westmar because this is our college. ebssemossioabaerc ats semana: oom Dr. G. O. Thompson . Dr. B. F. The loveliness of Westmar campus can be seen at any time of the year. Au- tumn brings brightly colored leaves which float about us as we walk from class to class. The elm leaves clutter into a pile so that even dignified college students become children again and shuffle through them to hear the rustle. The nippy weather centers our thoughts to daring football games and weiner roasts. Winter brings her cold winds but beautiful snow to cover the campus with a clean white snowy sheet just as a mother tucks the sleepy little boy in bed at night. As students look out of their window the morning after a snow they see a world uncluttered with footprints, but soon marks of shoes will be seen changing it into a human world. Then, spring pops out with budding leaves and tiny blades of grass to trans- form the campus into a world of green. It is the time of soft ball and tennis and hand-in-hand couples strolling across the campus a little slower than usual. The beauty of nature is continually changing on the campus of Westmar, but there seems to remain one permanent and spiritual beauty which we pray will never leave our campus. This is the beauty of friendliness. A cheery hi'' from a fellow classmate alters the gloomy day into one of peace and contentment. Al- though the studentsof Westmar cannot stop the process of nature and make the blossom of a flower stay the year around, they are able to keep Westmar College happy and friendly. 95 Sponsors of the 1954 Eagle We gratefully acknowledge the assistance of our sponsors: Sunday School Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church Salem, Iowa Youth Fellowship First Evangelical United Brethren Church Waterloo, Iowa Youth Department Bethany Evangelical United Brethren Church Enid, Oklahoma Women's Council Van Horne Evangelical United Brethren Church Van Horne, Iowa Sharon Evengelical United Brethren Church Kalona, Iowa Worthington Evangelical United Brethren Church Worthington, Minnesota Sunday School Aredale Evangelical United Brethren Church Aredale, Iowa The EAGLE staff wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Hershberger, professor of,chemistry, and Mr. Orlin Trapp, Ames, lowa, for many of the photographs found in the 1954 yearbook. 6 a i RES Sate tee’ =
