Une of the first signs of spring at Westlane is the practicing of the track teams. The freshman coaching staff, Mr. Weesner and Mr. Teboe, and the seventh and eighth grade coach, Mr. Mendenhall, put their prospective team members to work as soon as the first robin was sighted. The track season was greeted with much enthusiasm by the boys, and after preliminary work-outs, the Seventh and Eighth Grade Track Team. Nefouse P. Staines R. Blume M. Walkup G. Wallberg G. Irvin H. Westtorte Wrestlers Good Representatives The freshman wrestling team, coached by Mr. Allen Teboe, earned a respectable 5-4 record during the 1962-63 season. Most of the wrestlers succeeded in pinning their opponents and started the season well. This year there were seven returning lettermen who earned their second award. The freshman team placed eighth in the county meet out of thirteen teams, and our outstanding wrestler was Pete Reilly. Their record, however, proves that the entire team performed well on all occasions. The seventh and eighth grade wrestlers, also coached by Mr. Teboe, had a very successful season with six This is Practice? wins and two defeats. They placed sixth out of seventeen teams in the county meet, and their out- standing wrestler was Larry Nahmias. Several other boys placed in the meets, too. Most of the boys were inexperienced at the beginning of the year but gained much skill during their daily practices. This year there were sixteen lettermen. After such a victorious season, most of the boys plan to continue next year, even though the eighth graders who enjoyed participating in both wrestling and basketball this year will now have to make a choice between the two.

ASEB LL Enthusiastic Westlane seventh and eighth graders turned out in great numbers, eager to make Mr. Hudson's 1963 baseball team. The abilities displayed by pitchers, infielders, and outfielders were outstanding and made the coach's job of selection and elimination most difficult. Mr. Clayton, freshman coach, also met many eager players, several of whom were members of last year's successful seventh and eighth grade team. Therefore, with some experience, plus the memory of last year's freshman record of nine victories and one defeat as a goal to better, the members worked industriously. Mr. Clayton was pleased, not only by the interest shown, but also by the varied talents and abilities displayed by his players. Some of the teams that the freshman team chal- lenged were Eastwood, Perry East, Ben Davis, Wood- view, and Fulton. The seventh and eighth grade team met the expert competition of Noblesville, Perry Central, Eastwood, and Lawrence Central. Both teams had practiced con- tinually and were ready for the challengers.
