Firsi row: A. Bauer, C. Davisg Second row: A. Holloway, J. Wolf, Third 'row: K. Leander, D. Roberts. These enthusiastic girls are the 1962-63 cheerleaders. They have worked hard all year, not only on the hardwood floor but also in their school work as all the girls maintained average or above grades. Under the sponsorship of Mrs. Jung, they added color and sparkle to our cheers and encouraged the teams to victory. The ninth grade cheerleaders presented the skit, Wildcats Grufff' along with some of the team mem- bers. The girls worked vigorously at both pep sessions and games. Both seventh and eighth grade cheerleaders were also effective leaders at rallies and games. Most of them hope to continue next year. Mr. Larry Benbow, coach, and Mr. John Hobson, assistant coach, succeeded in developing not only improved techniques but also good sportsmanship. Sturman K Wilsted R Griffin S Talesnick P enkins G Although the thirteen members of the freshman basketball team ended the 1962 63 season with a record of seven wins and ten losses each of the players gained valuable experience for the future Under Mr Hobson s capable leadership the team demonstrated good sports manship and skil In addition to a good attitude and spirit, the freshman team had several outstanding players Rick Verplank was the overall high scorer, but Steve Hardy before his illness, had earned the most points m Terrells skill in scoring and rebounding enabled him to play all but two quarters However all of the members of the team played their best, and Westlane is proud of its freshmen team STRRETCH Freshmen Exon' E ort Take It Away' -f il 1
