Time spent in the classrooms plays the major role in our lives at Westlane. Among the many inter- esting classes is the music class, which every seventh grader takes. During this semester, they learn about composers and the instruments of the various musical groups along with their study of music appreciation and daily singing. Seventh grade students especially enjoy such things as drawing their impressions as they listen to famous artists. Eighth grade history classes study the events lead- ing from medieval history to present day society. Their study involves American history, including the Revolution to World War Il. They learn of our countryls governmental structure and vast heritage. Their activities include making maps, giving reports, and seeing films. Page ten Classroom tudies - This year the biology teachers have adopted a mod- ified BSCS course. The freshmen have studied the struc- ture of a living cell, the three kingdoms, plant, animal, and protist, and spent the remainder of the year studying genetics, heredity, and embryology. 'The Growth Curve of a Leaff' Dissection of a Live Frog,', and 'tThe Study of Genetics in Fruit Flies were some of the labs that proved to be challenging to the biology students. Ninth graders who are taking biology, along with the seventh grade general science students, are eligible to apply to Experiences Un- limitedv and other shorter studies involving field trips.
