BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ STATE This year, Westlake High School sent two junior girls and three junior boys to the Louisiana Pelican Boys' and Girls' State Convention in Baton Rouge on August 5-12 for Girts’ State and August 6-13 for Boys' State. Among those attending were Jimmy Ashworth, Jeanelle Fontenot, Kevin Banks, Ron Babineaux, and Julie LeBert. When asked about their experience s in attending Boys ’ and Girls ’ State, Jeanelle Fontenot and Ron Babineaux submitted their thoughts. Jeanelle commented, The thing I learned most while at Girls’ State was how important it was to work together in order to get something accomplished. It reminded me of the quote, ’Together we stand, divided we fall. Ron stated. Attending Boys State was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences. I received a first hand look at our system of state government and learned how it operates. I considered Boys ’ State to be a challenge My only regret is that I will not be able to go again.
