WESTLAKE HIG SCHOOL 100 GARDEN DRIVE WESTLAKE.LOUISIANA VOLUME 4! BUILD CONFIDENCE WHS As we struggle to find our true identities, the questions- Who am I? Where is life leading me? What will become of my life? -arise before us in our minds, taunting us. filling us with self doubts but also hopes for the future. Each and every one of us is a singular person, unique and separate in his own way, with the right to do his own thing. No one individual is a Xerox copy of another. Yet. as each one has fears, desires, and aspirations, so do we all. We must learn to communicate with others, to share their feelings and thoughts, to give of ourselves, to love and to care. By our experiences with other individuals we expand, mold our own personalities, and BUILD CONFIDENCE. With these thoughts in mind, we present to you the 1986 Ram-lerl Chris, Ed. Rob. and friends make use of the library. Examples of 1987 Junior Class Rings. 2 Opening GET IT TOGETHER John Oliver and Dexter Clark pose by construction. Dreaming maybe? Football players are always photogenic. Mr. Callen and Trish Warren take a break to admire Christmas invitations. Must be funny. Dedication 5 PRINCIPALS HELP BUILD CONFIDENCE It is already tomorrow. Some groups stood around and talked, while others did their talking on the dance floor. The 1985- 1986 school year brought forth great changes in the territory of the mighty Rams. Our school was completely redone from top to bottom. Among the changes were paint jobs, new floors, new ceilings, new lights, new lockers, new desks, new track, new stadium, ceilings fans, dressing rooms, and many other changes which time will not permit to list. These changes were a result of many long hours of hard work which were put in by several people. But to accomplish this result, the students at WHS had to arrive at school for several weeks earlier than they were accustomed to. meaning that school hours began at 7:00 every morning so that the workers could work in the early afternoon. Yet despite the misery'of waking up an hour early, we feel that it was well worth it. Thanks to all the people who helped bring about this 'facelift.' 'Cowboy' has his eyes on EVERYTHING! Many of these have probably been Driver's Ed. students. Trying to teach high school students the ethics of driving a vehicle can be a difficult task at times. Driver’s Ed is a four-week long course that prepares you to be a safe driver for yourself and others. During this period, which consists of lecturing, watching films, and taking tests, you learn the rules of driving and take the written part of the driving test. After taking the class, the hardest part is still ahead, which is the driving itself. This part is taken during the summer, when the driving test is taken. Although students like Lane Matte, Tammy McGuire. Rachael Glass, and Mike Verrett agree that at 7 o'clock their minds aren’t on driving. Drivers' Ed in an important experience. It is also good to have, since it helps cut the cost of insurance and helps out parents. Mrs. Martha Crick, Mrs. Mary Jones, and Mrs. Mattie Jones retired after many years of service to Westlake High School. Mrs. Crick was our school librarian for many years, Mrs. Mary Jones was counselor, and Mrs. Mattie Jones taught Typing I and II and Accounting. We shall greatly miss them in years to come and will always remember the times we've spent with them.
