f The participants that attended Boy's and Girl’s State were Susan Watson, It was an exciting experience for me. At first you get scared because you don’t know anyone, but things start happening so that you make new friends. I had little sleep and missed home, but I enjoyed myself alot. Joanne Kile. Girl's State was anything but boring. Adjustment comes quickly though, you learn to eat quickly and live without any sleep. Jim Farley, Boy’s State was an enlightening experience, teaching patience, trust, and the ability to work with others. The entire week was filled with work, but this was enjoyable work. The dance with Girl s State was the most pleasurable memory of the week. Johnny Johnson, Boy’s State was one of the best experiences of my life. Besides learning how the government works, I learned to work with people.” New heights were reached at Boy's and Girl's State. Student Life 15

Boy’s And Girl’s State, A Great Experience Susan and Joanna had a great time at Girl's State. Jim and Johnny think Boy's State was a great experience. Boy s and Girl's State is a once in a lifetime experience each year for four juniors. This year selected juniors were Susan Watson, Joanna Kile, Johnny Johnson, and Jim Farley. The program is held in Baton Rouge. Louisiana on the campus of L.S.U. Girl's State was held August 3-10 and Boy’s State was August 4-11. These eight days were very strenuous days filled with hard work and determination. Much was learned from this experience for all the juniors that attended. The Westlake American Legion sponsors Boy’s and Girl's State for the Westlake students and a banquet was held January 14 to present the participants. When the students arrive at the campus there is much confusion and excitement as they find themselves around so many strange faces. Each Westlake student was placed in a room with a total stranger from another school. Many new friends were made throughout the eight days of the program. When the week came to an end there was a sadness among the newly made friends. The students from Westlake were united only once, the night of the Boy's and Girl’s State Dance which was August 9. A few steps gained on the ladder to success. I4 Student Life
