Ram-Ler This year the annual staff has made a tremendous effort to produce the best yearbook in Westlake history. Under the competent guidance of Mrs. Breed, the sponsor, the final deadlines were met. Markie Sandel and Carla Moss, editor and associate editor respectively, helped crack the whip and helped keep the staff on its toes. Lori Myers, Miss Class Editor , managed to coordinate all the class sections in perfect harmony. Katie Martin and Jackie Buller compiled the section of brainy people, known as Who's Who in Academics. As soon as something happened around high school, Theresa Dumas drew it up and placed it in her Activities section. The rest of this motley group was Sharon Benson with Organizations and Jennifer Simms with Sports. Carol Breed was left in charge of ads and money and was known as the Business Manager. The staff could never have complete its work without the help of the four photographers. Danny Hetzler, Randy Whitehead. Mike Wiley, and Carl Nash both took and developed pictures. They were under the skillml supervision of Mr. McLamore. 67 Cheerleaders School spirit probably attained its highest peak this year. The six main reasons for this are Carla Moss, Debbie Lowery, Lori Myers, Adrienne Newhouse, Lynn Compton, and Sharon Benson. These cheerleaders jumped, yelled, and chanted their way through football and basketball season. Everyone who saw ther agreed they were GREAT! TTie Cheerleaders attended as a group Houst Baptist College this year for camp. Goirs wit them were the two alternates, Debbie Farrow and Mona Istre. This group of girls won every conceivable award. They won the spirit stick four times, ribbons every day, and individual superior ratings. Carla Moss won the great honor of Miss Cheerleader with her never-ceasi spirit. Congratulations, cheerleaders! 69 Proudly Presenting the Ramettes of 1971-1972 Westlake High Ramettes boast an enrollment of 17 girls including the cheerleaders. This year the marching unit represented our school at all the football games and particpated in several parades. The Ramettes are a group of special people in our school becuase they are involved in school spirit. 70 Flagbearers LEFTO TO RIGHT: Louisiana flag, Pat McDowell; American flag and head flagbearer, Mona Istre; Banner, Mary McPherson; School flag, Karen Reichley. The young man and lady who merit this must exhibit a strong character and a dedication to the grouwth of their school. Because these two people have shown a desire to promote school spirit, genuine interest in and concern for their fellow students, as well as a deep respect for their teachers, we have chosen Danny Hetzler and Markie Sandel as King and Queen of Hearts. 102 Cal - Cam Representative Miss Debbie Lowery Debbie Lowery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lowery, was chosen first runner-up the Cal-Cam Fair. She was nominated, along with other girls from Westlake, by the Westlake Faculty and later chosen by a panel of three judges to represent her school as Cal-Cam representative. 103 Most Handsome Runners-Up 1st — Terry Kennedy 2nd — Mike Ackleson Larry Daughdrill Joe Buller Most Beautiful Runners-Up 1st — Debbie Lowery 2nd — Moni Myers Debbie Williams 107 Because the Ram-let staff thinks that the WHS seniors are super peopel , they have initiated a special area for them . . . In previous years each class elected its own representatives, but this year the football team also elected the representatives. 112 in 1 Sophomores electives were: Moni Myers, Debbie Williams, and Betty Duncan. The junior electives were: Sharon Benson, Debbie Farrow, and Adrienne Newhouse. The senior electives were: Connie Lambert, Debbie Lowery, Lori Myers, Sheryl Thibodeaux, and Mona Istre. The student body chose Connie Lambert as their queen. The excitement of the identity of the queen came to a climax on Thursday, October 28, 1971. The queen was crowned by Mrs. Jones, a business department teacher. Lee Crick, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Crick, was the crown bearer. Following the coronation, a rousing pep rally was held. Then the winner of the decorations' contest was announced. The Senior Class of '73 won it again this year. After the pep rally, a tea given by the FHA, was held in the cafeteria honoring the Homecoming Court and alumni of 1931, 1941, 1951, and 1961. The football game Friday night closed out the 1971 Homecoming. During halftime Mrs. Hauskins crowned the queen, and the Ram Band and Ramettes gave a salute to the Business Department. 114 115 Senior Activities The Seniors of '72 have led the school by participating in several activities. Right: Steve German and James Guidry have a good time as cheerleaders for a Sr. skit at a pep rally. Lower Left: Nancy Liebee, Regina Ernst, and Vera Richardson assists in Homecoming decorations. Lower Rigth: The Seniors get it together for a skit at the pep rally. F.H.A. Fall Fashions The F.H.A. sponsored its annual fall fashion show. Several area stores provided clothit , which some students and faculty of W.H.S. modeled. The stores that participated were: Carolyns’s Suburban Shop, Bradley's Dept. Store, and Harene's, all of Westlake. The girls of the F.H.A. also modeled clothing which they had made. Christmas on Ice The Remettes sponsored their annual Christmas formal with the theme being Christmas On Ice. As every other year, a Christmas queen and her court were selected by a panel of judges from all of the Ramette girls attending. This year Mona Istre was crowned queen with Debbie Lowery, senior maid; Janice Peck, junior maid; and Moni Myers, sophomore maid serving on her court. Last year’s Christmas queen, Darnell Richmond, crowned Mona. The judges did a good job of selecting the girls, since they had fifthy girls to choose from. Decisions, Decisions! Other prominent players were: Pat McDowell, Lews Young, Mike Ackleson, and Mike Parker. The play was directed by Mr. Bill Dickerson and Mr. Pat Vanzile. Jennings ....------Crowley ....-------- Eunice pic by Harry Lancon 9 Y+ To an outsider, basketball means games, excitment, and cheering. But in the players life, basketball means long hours of tiresome practice, high hopes, wonderful victory, and lonely defeat. To other students, basketball means watching and rooting for good friends and working together to show the best their school has to offer. Whatever the sport signifies, we all agree that basketball and the people who participate in it are special people. f OPPOSITE PAGE; Upper Left: James Guidry; Upper Center: Freddy Crick; Upper Right: Mike Benjamin; Bottom Left: Bobby Self; Bottom Center; Donald Robertson; Bottom Right: Jeff Harrell THIS PAGE; Upper Left: Larry Daughdrill; Upper Center: Randy Williams; Upper Right: Francis Davis; Bottom: Ricky McCallon.
