THE RAM-LER ’71 WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL VOLUME XXVI Life goes by so fast; stop for a moment and look at it. Look at your friends, your teachers, your successes, and your failures. Look at the joys, tears, dreams, and most of all the promises - the promises of tomorrow. LOOK AT YOURSELF t. 1 1 e- I 0 f T THE SPIRIT My school has a spirit Freed by a rousing cheer, A clapping of hands, Or a broad smile of victory. My school is spirited, In time of demise, On the athletic field or in the classroom And there is always a swelling Pride of awe when the Alma Mater is sung. WE’RE FOR THE RAMS!!! 7 D E D I C A T I O N For eleven years this man has served the Westlake Student Body as teacher, coach, and friend. He has been a vital part of Westlake school life in and out of the classroom and succeeded in nurturing in students those all important qualities: integrity, sportsmanship, teamwork, a competitive spirit, and a sense of their future responsibilities as adults. All these traits show heisadedicated teacher - a true molder of men. We, the students of Westlake High School, have come to love and respect him, not only as a teacher, but also as a person; therefore, the Ram-ler Staff takes pride in dedicating the 1971 edition to Coach Wilridge Doucet. 9 MR. THE WEIGHT ROOM Yes, girls, here it is - what you have long been waiting for. This is the torture chamber, which turns our 220 pound weaklings into 222 pound he-men. Here is where flab turns to brawn” and meat turns to muscle. Charles Michelangelo Vicknair, painter, designer, and decorator of this fashion-winning room, deserves our thanks for both the room and the brawn! FAVORITES MISS W.H.S. - JUDY FUSELIER 115 KING AND QUEEN OF HEARTS Because he is a favorite of students and faculty alike and a loyal supporter of his school in such activities as football, chorus and speech, the Ram-ler Staff has chosen Bruce Fontenot as King of Hearts. Ever ready to assist her classmates in any task and represent her school in academics or extra curricular activities are the qualities that endear Avis McBride to us and make her the Ram-ler choice of • Queen of Hearts. 116 CHICK WHITE DARNELL RICHMOND SENIOR FAVORITES DEBBIE DARBONNE CLARENCE LEDOUX _ BRIAN FUSELIER JACKIE BOUDREAUX JUNIOR FAVORITES CHRISTINE DELLA FOSSE LARRY DAUGHDRILL w TERRY KENNEDY MELISSA FREISNER SOPHOMORE FAVORITES ADRIENNE NEWHOUSE PAUL WHITE SHARON BENSON PENNY BARBIE STEVE GERMAN HOGAN LEBLANC LORI MYERS BILL BORG MAN TERRY BANKENS DEBBIE FARROW WANDA CARTER LONNIE SOILEAU LYNN COMPTON BETTY CARVER BURT KENNEDY JOE BULLER SENIOR HALL OF FAME An avid supporter of her school is Darnell Richmond, who participates in such organizations as FBLA, the Rampage, and Drama Club. Her popularity with the student body accounts for her representing her school as cheerleader, a Class Beauty, a Favorite, and a candidate for Cal-Cam. Brian Pud Post has represented his school in the Science Club, InterAct Club, Art Club, and Track. His special” talent, however, is in music where he has distinguished himself as an outstanding musician. Being involved in many activities for her school is one of Fannie's endowments. She has represented us in such organizations as Ramettes, Science Club, and Choral Club and still found time to be cheerleader and a Favorite. The Senior Hall of Fame, instituted by the 1971 Ramler Staff, is made up of students chosen by the Faculty for their service, leadership, and their school spirit, three contributing factors to the growth of Westlake High. One of the favorites around school is a little livewire”, Kathie Edwards, who keeps herself busy editing the annual. When she is not busy here, she hums away in the A-capella Choir, or any other place you see her. 123 A flash of red hair and a ready smile complement the beauty of Debbie Broussard. Debbie, Miss Dance of Louisiana, has represented her school and community as a favorite and beauty. Craig is an active participant in track and science club, but his first love is his music where he has distinguished himself as a member of the Clinic band for 1970-71, bandsman for the month of December, 1970, All-star marching band of 1970, and Vice President of the Band Council. Mr. WHS, Raymond Belmet who has the faculty for winning any office, is an affable, young man with a keen sense of humor. Besides being a favorite with his classmates, he supports his school in sports and extra-curricular activities such as Choir, Science Club, and Drama Club. If you want anything done, call on Jerilyn to do it because she is so dependable and efficient. In spite of this, she still finds time to serve in the Beta Club and FBLA and maintain her place on the Banner Roll. Quite a feat! I Judy Fuselier, Miss WHS, is noted for her vivacious personality. She has represented her school as a cheerleader, favorite, beauty, Cal-Cam representative, and Homecoming Queen, Nice work. Judy. The young man with the camera supports his school by being president of the Science Club, a member of the Beta Club, and the Ram-pageStaff. It’s amazing that he can also assist the Ramler in its photography and still maintain an average that places him in Who's Who in Academics. Sweet perfection is an appropriate description for Betty Carver who has represented her school in Beta Club, FBLA, FSA, and Band. Along with these activities she has maintained her popularity with her classmates, become a National Merit Semifinalist, and maintained her place in Who's Who in Academics. Doche Martin, quiet, sweet, and dependable, is indeed an asset to our student body. She participates in such organizations as FHA, Science Club, and Beta Club and maintains a place in Who's Who in Academics. 125 TOP TEN REPRESENTATIVES STANDING: Carla Moss, Jeri Dupin, and Connie Lambert. SEATED: Kathie Edwards, Darnell Richmond, Pat McDowell, Judy Fuselier, Wanda Carter, Fannie Dowden, and Debbie Lowery. JUDY FUSELIER CAL-CAM REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES Each year the football team follows the tradition of nominating candidates for the Homecoming Court. Each class, in turn, elected its own representatives, three being elected from the sophomore class and three from the junior. The seniors elect four representatives from their class. From these four representatives, the student body elects the queen whose identity remains secret until her crowning. Sharon Benson Escorted by David Veillon Debbie Farrow Escorted by Jeffrey Harrell Debbie Broussard Escorted by Hogan LeBlanc Connie Lambert Escorted by Ronnie Smith Pat McDowell Escorted by Greg Goleman Adrienne Newhouse Escorted by Mike Ackleson At 1;15 on October 23, 1970, the homecoming ceremonies began in the auditorium with the presentation of the court to the student body, and alumni. Mrs. Liz Mothershed, physical education instructor for girls, crowned the queen. Marla Doucet, daughter of Mr. apd Mrs. Wilridge Doucet, was the crown bearer. The senior class instituted a new tradition, by giving the queen a train to compliment her gown. Following the coronation, a spirited pep rally was held. After the pep rally, a tea was held in the cafeteria honoring the homecoming court and returning alumni and hosted by the FHA. Ceremonies that night were curtailed because of rain. Debbie Darbonne Escorted by Mike Johnson Even the rain couldn't dampen Homecoming spirit. pics on opposite page by Gabbert-Carlisle pics by Harry Lancon 130 “ ,v CtUthIt 'S N'OP’e?'] jt ■s ssss== 1 v t.
