cS cBoof Be ciders 7lttencf Summer (Conferences Janet Lowery and Don Brown were chosen following a series of tests to represent Westlake High at a two-month science seminar at LSU. During their stay on the Baton Rouge campus they attended classes in astronomy, mathematics and chemistry. April Miller prepared for her duties as editor of the Ram-ler by a six-day leadership conference at LSU. The conference offered studies in year book, journalism, leadership and speech. Elected by their classmates to represent Westlake High at Pelican State were Williann Gibson and John Roderique. The annual nine-day session held during the summer at LSU attempts to teach each participant the proceedings of the state's government.

The girls met in the teachers' lounge and were interviewed by judges not associated with the school. The winner was picked from a group of 22 nominations. Pictured above are the three judges represented and the girls receiving the most votes in their respective classes. From left to right are: Mrs. Sally Hayes, Mrs. Virginia White, Mrs. Marylin Dunn, Wanda Carter (Jr.), Judy Koonce (Soph.) and Carolyn Mitterlehner (Sr.). The happy, smiling faces above belong to the 22 pretty young ladies nominated by the faculty. 14
