Below: The Westlake High School Band, Majorettes, and Flag Bearers joined in the celebration. JIMMY ANDERSON Student Body President The students of Westlake High School again heaped honor on themselves and their school by winning the 1964 Sweepstakes for the third consecutive year, thus giving our school permanent possession of the trophy. Thirty-nine students participated in the literary rally bringing home twenty 1st places, sixteen 2nd places, and two 3rd places, for a grand total of 150 points. The nearest school in our class was Marion High School with 78 points. It is interesting to note that Westlake High gained more points in this literary rally than any other school in any class including the triple A schools. The music festival contributed a first place win toward the trophy. The speech rally brought a 1st place, the track team a first place, and playday a 2nd place, thus assuring us once again that we're number one. JUNfOR,-£ENfOR FRO U May 16, 1964 was the date and the cafeteria was the scene of one of the best proms ever given at Westlake High. The music was as hot as the dancers and the refreshment committee had no trouble in getting rid of two delicious colors of punch. If you examine these pictures closely you’ll see some of the seniors of '64 looking somewhat nostalgic. KAY 1964 LEADERSHIP AND PELICAN STATE Skippy Chisholm and Linda Havens represented Westlake High at Pelican State held in Baton Rouge this summer. Skippy was elected as mayor of the mythical place called Georgia City. Below: Charlotte Landry and Carolyn Lowery attended the Leadership Conference at LSU in the field of recreation. Barbara Gerbine went in Library Science. A great time was reported by all who took in these events and these students on this page heartily recommend that you go down there to LSU one summer and join in the fun. OUR PRINCIPAL - J. M. Some of her duties include the making out of class schedules, administering of standardized tests, checking up on the records of seniors to make sure they are taking enough credits to graduate, keeping a complete academic record on each student and investigating all of the scholarship offers. Mrs. Hebert was born Pearle Agnes Smith on March 17. 1917, at Boyce, Louisiana. She attended Boyce Elementary and Boyce High School where she graduated as valedictorian in 1934. Her BA degree was granted from Northwestern in 1938 in business administration. In 1939 she married Jack McKnight and she became the mother of three children: Jackie, Edwin, and Kirby. For ten years Mrs. Hebert taught adult education in Rapides Parish and for three years at Boyce High School. In the fall of 1959 she began teaching at Westlake High School and this completes her sixth year with us. In 1963 she received her Master of Education degree from Northwestern with guidance and counseling as her major. In 1963 she married Mr. Andrew Hebert of Sulphur, Louisiana, and on November 25, 1963 she was the recipient of the Award of Merit by the Louisiana Association of Public School Adult Educators in recognition of untiring efforts to help citizens of Louisiana toward a fuller life through active support of the Louisiana Adult Academic Education Program. Don’t you agree with us that she is very deserving of love and appreciation from all of us? How many of our football stars can you recognize?
