I I One of the most nerve-jangling jobs in running a school is the responsibility of making out all of the countless reports amid the many and varied interruptions that take place inthe office, One must stop to receive, count and record money for pictures, lunches, coffee, senior rings, junior play, senior play, PTA, and you name it - - - we have it. Also one must stop to register new students, write admits, be called to the phone, write checks and get substitutes. During all of this routine one must find time to make out next year's schedules, this month's payroll and to- day's absentee sheet. Then there's the monthly report and endless correspondence to attend to. For this job it takes a person with a strong constitution. Sl-lCh fi PCISOH is Miss Barbara MCGIU-IC, our secretary. Miss McGuire graduated from Westlake High School in 1948 and came to work in the office in 1952. She has been valuable to the principal, the student body, the faculty and staff. She relieves us all of a great deal of work and helps keep the gears of the school well oiled. It is with a distinct pleasure that we, the Annual staff of 1960, sincerely dedicate this year's edition of the Ram-Ler to Miss Barbara McGuire, MISS BARBARA MCGUIRE mining. Progress is advancement. Always and everywhere in our modern, fast-moving world we see progress. All things come to an end or are forgotten. However, as they pass forward, we find that there is something to take the place of each. We must go on to greater advancements. Leaving behind is only bettering the replacements. Ifeel that, I, along with my fellow-workers, have shown you progress through the year- books. I have edited for three years and know the accomplishments of our school. That is only the beginning: later, when school days are over, greater progress will develope. Yes, my retirement has come. I regret leaving, but, at the same time, I am happy to go on. I am grateful for all help and encouragements I have had in bringing you these memories. It has been a proud three years for me. We, the staff, tried to make it what you wanted it to be. Thar was our success. To the staff members, faculty, students, and advisors, I say, thanks, QM WM 5440, , 'Mmm 1 N ,s sr ? fi We . Through your efforts many of our projects have been made possible. Realizing your job endless, we, the class of '60, wish our sincerest thanks and our deepest appreciation to Robert Ratliii. to express ' d classmate, yon, President an E i R 'FQ 'w-. ,Q if 2-43: 5, ., 4 .,f.m,,,,,,,Wg fs aiu, S.. yn ?5 Q 3 y f KV fyy ,A ii , my ig , gl V1 1444 Www Zawme 'ifaueae 641514016 7076 7001044 at7?59 ANN d HART BONNIE HAVENS S 1 I I cuzckn XLANJ 5 2 ed 4 U 9 5 fa CQOL' BARBARA CAMPBELL CECIL MCBRIDE Barbara and Cecil were chosen to go to Longbeach, Mississippi, at Gulf Park Col- lege, as Junior Red Cross Representatives. Then the student body voted by secret ballot and a queen was chosen. It was kept a secret un- til the time ofthe crowning. Following the precedent which was set last year, an afternoon crowning ceremony was held in the gymnasium so that all of the little fellows from the elernen- tary grades might witness this most colorful of spectacles. The gym was packed with students and many overflowed onto the gym floor itself! The band filled the air with marching music and there was so much excitment that everyone was caught up in the gay spirit which prevailed. Then, as the master of ceremonies approached the microphone, a hush fell over the audience and their names were called for them to come forward. There were mixed emotions of surprise and shock as the girls came forward. Many had blue, gold or maroon hair! Here are the candidates for 1959 Homecoming Queen: STANDING: Ellen Thornton, Virginia Self, Lucille Hart, Ann Edwards, Anncie Thornton. SITTING: Wanda Culpepper, Mary Io Wethey, Zelma Rivers, Beverly Wincey, Yvonne Marcantel, Cheryl Walsh. an The last name to be called was that of Miss Vir- ginia Self, who was proclaimed the new queen. Bert Kennedy brought the crown forward on a red velvet pillow decorated with gold tassels. Mrs. Io Ann Chelehowski performed the crown- ing. Billy Fronezek and Dolores Burns brought forth the Queen's proclamation on a scroll which ordered that a state of gaiety and mirth should prevail and that all persons on restriction and detention had been granted amnesty.
