The Rams showed plenty of spirit and hustle as they completely outclassed the Tigers. R.D. Tower scored 2 touchdowns, Benham and Carroll Moyer 1 each, and Ray Friesner threw 3 TD passes. One each to Hoben, Harlan Duhon, and Charles Moss. Hambrick kicked 6 extra points. PERRY PEN TON - End WESTLAKE ROLLS OVER DRAGONS The Rams won their third straight fame Friday night by rolling over last year's district champs, the DeRidder Dragons, 34-6. It was the second Southwest District VI-A triumph for Coach Bennie Ellender's crew. Benham scored 4 times on runs of 14, 15. and 19 yards and a 30 yard pass from Friesner. Every member on the squad saw action. Benham scored twice, Meche and Friesner one each. Hoben scored the other 6 pointer on a 32 yard pass from Friesner. Hambrick kicked 4 extra points. I The Rams got off to a slow start against the Warriors, but rolled to a 34 to 14 triumph. It was their fifth victory in five starts. Marion drew first blood by scoring with less than three minutes gone. But the Rams settled down and scored 27 big points in the second period. Mickey Benham scored three and Friesner passed to Winston Caldwell for the fourth. Hambrick--four extra points. GATORS HAND RAMS FIRST DEFEAT of 1953 SEASON The Rams played a good fame but came out on the short end of a 26-21 score. The great Ram line held the Gator backs to 97 yards on the ground but they gained 156 yards in the air. That spelled defeat for the Rams. The Westlake backs outclassed the LaGrange backs on the ground by gaining 141 yards, but were able to garner only 6 yards in the air. The Ram line gave only 76 yards rushing while the secondary held them to no passing yardage. On the other hand the Ram backs gained 239 yards rushing and 136 yards passing. RAMS BEAT LEESVILLE The Westlake Rams put the final touch on the finest football season in the school history as they romped to a 40-7 District VI-A victory over the Leesville Wampus Cats. The Rams turned in a fine performance in notching their 8th victory in 9 starts. Scoring for the Rams were, Benham 2(2 and 8 yard runs ), Caldwell ( 57 yard pass from Friesner ), Meche ( 1 yard run ), Hambrick ( 57 yard run, 2 placements ), Moss ( 12 yard run ), and 1 extra point. Morgan City drew first blood and led 7-0 at the half. Benham then went 3 yards with 3 seconds left in the third period for the TD. and Hambrick converted to tie it up. Ray Friesner then tossed a 26 yard touchdown pass to Caldwell to put the Rams in die drivers seat to stay. WESTLAKE BEATS GONZALES IN SEMI-FINALS Westlake gained the championship round by the margin of 9 first downs after battling to a 26-26 deadlock with Gonzales Bulldogs in one of the most nerve racking displays of offensive football witnessed on a high school gridiron this year. The official tally showed the Rams a-head in first downs 17-8 and that was the deciding factor in event of a tie. Hambrick scored twice and kicked 2 extra points. Benham scored once and Caldwell scored the last on a 13 yard pass from Friesner. RAMS WALLOP RAYVILLE FOR CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP The whole Westlake team played a great game. The Hornets were held to a measly 69 yards on the ground and got no passing yardage at all. They were held to 3 first downs while the Rams picked up 21.
