The Junior Class is undertaking vari- ous projects to provide funds for their prom and senior yearbook. In the opera- tions of these activities all students are asked to participate in order that they may benetit from the education through taking part in these activities. The Junior Class introduced a new idea this year. They are selling candy and beverages to the students who carry their lunches to school. In this way they are ' 1 ' -nneth K 'z 1. uniol-S . . , BEYOND THE BLUE HoR1zoN trying to benefit the commuting students and also raise money. We are looking for- ward to the Junior Prom which we hope that all who attend will remember for many years. As last year and the preceding years we have many new faces in the Junior Class. Everyone's ambition made our Jun- ior Class a successful one. With this same ambition and will. we look forward to our senior year. Now we can participate in school activities such as basketball and track. Most important we have a voice in the school government through our representatives in the Student Council. We are starting the long grade to the biggest day in our lives at school, graduation. Then we can make the big decision in our lives. either go to college or step out into life and get a job. ATHLETICS Football The H336 football season began as Wilnierdinq was host to a good Blairs- ville team. Costly mistakes led the Wild- cats to a 19-0 defeat. Injuries and more mistakes hindered the VVildcat eleven in their second game with St. Vincent Prep. In a close Contest Wilmerding met defeat again T-U. Homestead's speedy backheld and hard charging line were too much for the Wildcats, and they went down to their third straight loss, 13-tl. Apollo then invaded the Wildcat lair and even though Wilmerding scored their first touchdown of the year, they lost their fourth game of the season, 13-T. The Wildcat tally came on a short plunge by Bob Peckieh. The tides of fortune remained un- changed when the Cats played host to the Glassport Gladiators. Wilmerding lacked the scoring and defensive ability to stop the Gladiators, and was dealt their fifth straight loss, 30-ti. Wihnerding broke the famine by scoring a 19-U win over Kittanning. A steady ground game behind some good blocking in the line gave the Wildcats their tirst win of the season. The following week the Cats traveled to East McKeesport to meet a highly favored Hilltopper team. The arch rivals of Wilmerding were swept off their feet as the Wildcats racked up a satisfying 13-0 win. The Wildcats downed Swissvale, 12- 6, for their fourth win of the season. The following week, Turtle Creek came to Wilmerding to close the season and dealt the Cats a 13-6 defeat. Though Wilmer- rling lost, we can be proud of the Gnu spirit and brilliant playing of all the players. The Wildcats had a poor start, los- ing their first five games, but came on in the latter stages of the season to post a fairly respectable 4 and 6 record. Wil- merding was led by a new coach this year, Mr. Norman Restaine, and he was ably assisted by Mr. Edward Scurci and Mr. Arthur Bernardi. Thirteen seniors have played their final game for Wilmerding. They are Wayne Bobich, .lack Brozak, Andy Car- rano, Dale Deer, Robert Gadagno, Tom Heintzelman, Ted Karas, Emanual Luna, Elmer Merkovsky, George Pekieh, Stan- ley Pogozelski, Nunzio Tomasello, and Dale Wasczak. Managers Robert Mrdjen- ovich and Eugene Mezeiviteh are also graduating. Returning lettermen include George Jesko, Ronald Cwynar, Jack Gerard, Thomas Hai-tzell, Thomas Wher- li. Robert Pekich, and Sam Karas. action in the East Mclieesport game. .- mv, .,..-vw iv as .- --aa ..- ol1u:.-.-- U-itil ,-V., ..,., .- ......V4L.,-,U- W., ...,,, fx,-pf ff., ,...... f . .,,, ..f..Vr'n14,..,.W, V,.,,, ,i..,:,.. ,,,,,,.,- ..,.A, ,,mVV1fslv-V.,.4.,. .. , , . . ,,, , . 1-sn..unmv...,..f--.f-un ---'-'--A- Wfn-u---..,,,,,, M A ,,, M V, ..,...,,......1..---V I...,, M-we-.V-uuEu.5.,.,2.
