by Richard Zwicker A new twist was employed at this year ' s freshman-junior pic- nic: organization. The end result was a more enjoyable and meaningful time for those involved. Instead of the students just eating and leaving, a number of activities were held after the meal. There was a human pyramid contest, the winning structure having a base of 18 bodies. A spirited tug of war was won by the freshman class. The juniors brushed off the defeat, rationalizing that there were more fresh- men than juniors. Other activities included football games, piggy back fights and frisbee throwing. After the games the junior officers sat the freshmen down and conducted a rap ression on the upcoming year. There were 685 students on hand, 110 more than last year. A number of teachers also showed up, some even participating in the tug of war. Bill O ' Leary, president of the junior class, was enthusiastic as usual. If the freshman class can continue to show the enthusi- asm they demonstrated at the picnic, things are going to be looking brighter at WSC. For once the traditional picnic achieved its purpose of getting the two classes together. And the sun was even shining. 21

Most people thought it was cancelled because we had a rain date set, Chuck Fitzgerald, vice-presi- dent of senate said about Clean-Up Camp Westy Day which took place on Oct. 29. Despite a small turnout, the group of about 25 students and administration members filled the pick-up truck three or four times. The people that came out did a very good job, Fitzgerald said. Fitzgerald said that the day was a success in the sense that the campus was cleaned up. He said that the ultimate purpose of the day failed. It ' s whole purpose was to get people to start thinking about the garbage they ' ve been throwing around, Fitz- gerald said. Dean Norman Hiersche was among the adminis- trators who turned out at Clean-up Camp Westy Day. 23
