This meal consisTed of juice wiTh a bending sTraw or warm soda ThaT gave you hiccups, PB8cJ, soggy cold cuTs, or once in a while, a room- Temperafured slice of pizza found iTs way inTo The bag. an apple, a cup- cake, and a napkin. The boughf lunch: if you decided To waiT in line for a junk food spree or a hoT meal, you had a choice of Two rouTes. a. If purchased aT The snack bar, This was ofTen composed of ice cream or a shake, Three assorTed hosTess cakes. and chocolafe milk if noT juice. The idea here was To see how full you could geT eafing AO minuTes worTh of junk. b. lf you acTually wanfed a full meal Qwouldn'T Mommy be proudly, waiTing in line for a sandwich, green salad. warm pizza, or The hoT dish of The day added an ever greaTer varieTy. Of course, one musTn'T forgeT The choco- laTe milk - or skim milk, if you were on a dieT. However, The ulTimaTe or The gourmeT lunch for WHS sTudenTs could be found anywhere away from WHS. lf you or a friend had a car, money in your pockeT, and a way of sneaking pasT The hall moniTors, you were seT. EiTher The food was ThaT much beTTer aT local resTauranTs Qsuch as The Pizza Place, Roofs, and The ever popular Mickey D'sj Than your opTions wiThin school, or for a shorT break. The plan for an open lunch was in conTroversy. The in- creased enrollmenT in The fall of '88 due To The 4-year school will creaTe a crowded cafeTeria. As good or bad as They may be, lunches - aT school or anywhere else - are cerfainly one reason why lVlom's cooking TasTes so good.
