The 1986 Weather Vane is dedicated to the Statue of Li- berty in honor of its historic restoration. To millions of immigrants the sight of the Statue of Liberty was, and is, a deeply moving experience because it repre- sents man's long cherished dream of freedom. In this tow- ering symbol, immigrants see their own future - a future of opportunity, equality, lack of oppression, and fulfillment. In a sense, we too are immi- grants, embarking on an un- certain and challenging future with much the same hope and strong sense of optimism. May this symbol of our heri- tage of freedom inspire us even as it has, and will, inspire all those who migrate to our shores. To enlarge upon and en- hance this year's theme, the Weather Vane Staff asked various well known persons in different walks of life, as well as our own faculty and stu- dents, to comment on what the Statue of Liberty means to them, Excerpts from these re- sponses are included in this yearbook.
