Counseling at the high school level was strictly vocational, and then it became scheduling students into the right classes, and now it is personal and social counseling as wet.-Judith Glasser Westfield High School is a more exciting ploce because it offers more. It has not only the traditional offerings, but also contemporary ones.-Evelyn Maloney We now have a great deal more supplementary help In the way of the Special Services Team, which includes a psychologist, a social worker, a learning disabilities teacher, and the resource room teachers. And we also have about thirty volunteers who work in the College Resource Center. ■ Margaret Rhein

FACULTY COMMENTS CONCERNING PROGRESS AS IT RELATES TO WHS AND EDUCATION. . The school has improved in many aspects. There is a broader variety of course offerings, particularly in the foreign languages. For instance, semester courses, conversational courses, and different A.P. offerings have been added -Richard Konet I've seen a greater concern and commitment to the full development of our students in terms of the professional staff. I've also seen a greater assumption of responsibility by pupils.-Robert Petix There is definitely a move toward serious appreciation of study. We're coming around again, coming to a reordering of priorities, emphasizing values, growth, and learning. The students have a broadened interest in intellectual expansion.-Frank Scott

On behalf of the Westfield School, the 1983 Weather Vane would like to extend its gratitude to the following persons as they retire from their present positions: John Lay. retiring after 13 years as as Director of Phys. Ed. and Athletics, 6 years as Supervisor of boys athletics, and 12 years as Phys. Ed. and Health teacher; Gary Kehler, stepping down after 22 years as head football coach and 4 years as assistant football coach; Ruth Hanna, departing after 22 years as secretary to guidance; Isabel Dukes, leaving after 15 years of guidance. 11 in Roosevelt and 4 years in the high school; Marie Sweeney, retiring after 24 yeors as secretary to the principal; Jim Donovan, leaving after being Assistant Su-perintendent since 1975. m Mari© Sweeney 23 i
