Kessler; Jeff Levine '74 141 iTW , •'' :'3 ■? ; Vi y HH : r There were many times when ideas I thought to be pertinent seemed to never really get started. There were also many ideas that did get a fair shake such as, the open lunch, the internship program, the school in a foreign country, the summer leadership camp and the Black awareness club. The Student Council also allowed me to be in a position rarely held by Blacks in Westfield: a position of leadership, and a position of activity. I honestly believe that being involved with Student Council has made me a much more aware individual. Mary Smith '74 149 151 153 154 The band is not just course number 52, or the producing of music and drill. It is a sense of belonging to a closely knit group of friends — who pursue together the beauty of a musical score. Matt Medford '74 155 Since an audience accepts a lower calibre of musicianship than we, the orchestra mem- bers do, we perform not for our audiences but for ourselves. After a concert, I feel emotionally drained but nevertheless tri- umphant. Howard Katz '74 156 ■'«3 160 161 162 Some people belong to service clubs for self-recognition. Others belong because their friends do. But most people join so that they can offer their help to others without the recognition or reward. Cj ?s O- We sat and talked until the night, Descending, filled the little room; Our faces faded from the sight, Our voices only broke the gloom. We spake of many a vanished scene. Of what we once had thought and said, Of what had been, and might have been, And who was changed, ancJ who was dead; And all that fills the hearts of friends, When first they feel, with secret pain, Their lives henceforth have separate ends. And never can be one again; The first slight swerving of the heart. That words are powerless to express, And leave it still unsard in part. Or say it in too great excess. The very tones in which we spake Had something strange, I could but mark; The leaves of memory seemed to make A mournful rustling in the dark. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow 328
