Our school philosophy aims for the fullest development of the individual physically, mentally, and spiritually. In this, our year- book, we, the Class of 1959, endeavor to show you how this philosophy makes Westfield High School what it is. A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence will stop. --Henry Adams This thought, so appropriate to you, is in our minds as we, the Class of 1959, dedicate our Weather Vane Annual to you, Miss Theurer. v . As sophomores, we came to know you in various ways. For some, you were the under- standing English teacher who helped ease the difficult transition from junior high to senior high life. For others, you were the dynamic German teacher, whose enthusiasm for this language was contagious. Those whom you had not taught soon came to know you as the omnipresent thwarter of the hall- way dash, the opponent of lateness, upholder of discipline, and the subject of favorable comments from their friends. In our junior year, we teamed with you in meeting our responsibilities as a class. Our junior activities were highlighted by the Prom, which afforded many of us the oppor- tunity of getting to know you better. As we fulfilled our obligations to the school, you re- minded us of our obligations to ourselves and thus guided us through a trying year. In our senior year, we lamented our buddy's exuberance on the volley ball court. But the cast was not a hindrance to your spirit. Ut would take a great deal more than plaster to affect that lb You perched on the desk, led those resounding German pro- nunciation drills, stood squarely in the cen- ter of the hall, and made side-splitting re- marks as always. As seniors, we became aware of the pres- ent and its opportunities. We realized the future and its promises. Now we are led on by far-reaching hopes and high ideals. And in our strivings, we shall think often of one whose life is a constant reflection of her character-one who believes in laughter, love, faith, and learning.
