Basketball The Westfield High School Basketball Season of 1935-36 closed with a total of nine games won and thirteen lost. The Sliamrocks started out in good style by winning four of their first games. Then they hit a slump which was not overcome for the next seven games. At the disastrous point in the schedule came the County Tournament. Having gone to the finals in the last two tourneys. Westfield was conceded among the strong con- tenders for the championship crown. However. Walnut Grove blackened all chances of gaining any honors by handing the Shamrocks a 37-23 defeat in their first game of the tourney. In the remainder of the schedule. the Shamrocks displayed 3 brand of ball playing which concluded their regular season with five consecutive victories. When the hardwood teams of Hamilton and Tipton counties met in the Sectional Tournament, Westfield was rated as one of the outstanding darkhorses, The Shamrocks entered the tourney in fine shape and turned back Walnut Grove in the first round of the tournament by a 22-20 count to avenge their defeat in the county championship bat- tle. In the second game, the Shcrldan Blackhawks showed their power to be too much for the Shamrocks by turning them back 26-14. This game ended the hardwood career of four seniors. In County coinpetiti-an the Green and White boys turned back five foes and lost six engagements to end up in fourth place in the county rating. The Shamrock Rcse1'ves endured a season much like the first team. They won nine and lost ten, The Freshman team suffered the worst defeats by losing four games and winning none, 1Continued on Page 24+
