Past, present and future seniors leave school with a widened field of knowl- edge, thus enabling them to achieve their goals in life. The purpose of high school is to develop the spirit and to cultivate the mind of each student. The honor with which he holds his position as a graduate depends entirely on his widening scopes of life. el Pin' 4 H 't .,, . , . I 'ik +2 . it t ,t if 'mfr JMU Q Ji ---5 225 l -1. Complimenls of AJAX fembw Cricket,' This year for the first time a student from Westfield went to Europe under the American Field Service plan as a Foreign Exchange Student. The lucky person was Martha Cricket7, Beale, who lived with the Corzilius family in Berlin, Germany. Her family was composed of her father, Vatig her mother, Muttig three brothers-Dieter, Udo, and Claus-Peter, and a sister, Puppi. They all took her warmly into their home and made her feel a real member of the family. In her own words, It was the most rewarding and the happiest experience of my life. I have gained an understanding and an education I could have received in no other way. I hope that during my short stay with the Corzilius', I was able to uphold the ideals of the A.F.S. and to give them a better understanding of our Amer- ican way of lifef' FOMQIL Emma Stadmta 1eannot For the second year in a row the Student Congress helped to sponsor a Foreign Exchange Student for Westfield. We were extremely fortunate this year to get Jean-Pierre Ludwig, or better known as Jeannot , from Pont-Andemer, France. He is living with Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Monta and family in Westfield for the school year. ,leannot is a senior and has participated in many of the Senior projects. He takes English, American his- tory, advanced algebra, public speaking, solid geometry, and psychology. He is very eager to participate in all the school sports, and this year is a member of the varsity basketball squad. He also enjoys photography, as anyone could well guess if they saw him, for wherever you see Jean- not , you also see his camera. The social emphasis in America is a lot different than in France, and 'fleannotn is taking advantage of the many extra things there are to do here. DONALD ANZALONE Don Cool Kitty fn Band 1, 2. Remember? We walked into the room trembling-left for the first time without our mother. Half of us were crying, the other half were petrified but boldly determined to be a success in this new venture. Oh, yes, the ufingern painting, it was fun though messy, but how niceg we got to take the hand plaques home. Where's yours? Still proudly displayed beside mother's dresser? We have grown, haven't we? Just compare the knuckles! Hot? Yes, even for Kindergarten Graduation-although some of our sweat may have been caused by the effort we put forth on the Rhythm Band. Go Dick Go! Run Jane Run! See Spot Run! And-in the midst of it--down the rickety old fire escape we'd run as the Fire Drill called us from our First Grade Reverie. The third floor? We loved the ear tests, because we got to explore the third floor and the big bare room! Bless Mr. Bird! He always had so much patience with us. Welch Field played an important part in our lives as the boys would race there to play the game of the season--and bombard the passing girls with chestnuts. Sixth grade graduation! The end of Welch Field picnics! New classes! New teachers! Battling for a seat at the Dairy Bar! Field trip to the museum! Sun- bonnet Sue! Junior High? - How heavenly! High School came and with it a new choice of courses including Mr. Ramm's cookie and milk sessions, extra mind reading courses after school. and the long map that needed a prayer rug. Prom and pains were the keynote of our Junior year! What a year! Pains from frozen fingers acquired at the car washes. Our first Exchange Student, France, what a darling she was! And the departure of our own dear Cricket as the first W. A. C. S. student to go abroad. It was the Era of the cowboy and Westfield really got hep! Paladin, the Mavericks, Bat Masterson, Kitty and Annie Oakley were honored at a party given by the roulette king, Theodore Wesley. OH, heavens, Senior year! The final step towards our ultimate goal. Among the new members of the class were Jeanne, Bill. Bonnie, and our suave Frenchman, Jeannotl Our Variety Show, magazine sale, candy sale, SENIOR WEEK, and Senior play set us on our road to Washington. Caps and gowns were ordered, but poor Lenny couldn't get in on the measuring end of it. The fabulous Washington trip became a reality. It was just announced that Congress and the President have just approved an immediate reconstruction plan for the Capitol. Then came the month of May and the waiting applicants received college decisions. My gosh, I'd better stop dreaming. The musicis starting and the first two are already going down the aisle. Wow, is it hot! , 29 Ucuultq Slow NS' fa ajax if wmv 'WM it X lim ER 32 The Senior Class of 1960 produced the annual Variety Show. this year Called the Palace Theaterv, under the direction of Mr. Hutchinson and Mr. Smith. Regular tackle Jud Blanchard, center Jon Northrop, fullback J. O. Young, and halfback Jon Russo were lost to the squad by crippling injuries. A heart-breaking loss to Bemus Point in mid-season spoiled prospects of a 5-3 record after losses to powerful Northern Area and Silver Creek. Three victories, two in a sea of mud, completed a 41-4 season. Hanging up their togs are ten of the best athletes to wear the Wolverine Blue and White. To be eligible for membership, students must have the following qualities: Scholarship, Leadership, Character, and Service. They must also hold an 85721 average if a Junior or a 9092 average if a Sophomore. The Society sponsors a scholarship program which presents a pin to each student from seventh grade to tenth grade whose average is 90? or above. These pins vary from bronze to gold with an inset diamond. They are presented according to the number of consecutive school quarters in which the student maintains the required average. This year they have had several fudge sales, put on a dance called the Santa Shop Shuffle and made plans to visit Erie Playhouse. Compliments of DR.
