As time passes, the pictures will become as dated as those of the flappers on our division pages, but they record the life we lived in the school year of 1971-72. The first volume of the Pioneer was published in 1951 when it took over the traditions of the Artesian, which was preceded by the Purple and Gold. The first available copy of that vunerable book was published in 1951. At that time WHS had a faculty of 6 members and a graduating class of 22. Now we have 25 faculty members and 91 graduates in the class of '72. Though many things have changed since 1951- styles, transportation (Beam me up Spock)- we still have a few things the same--school colors and the lunch program. We must give credit to the cooks, for they have introduced us to modern day deli- cacies such as seven layer surprise and chicken on a stick. This new Pioneer is the result of the work of 27 staff members, and we, the editors, wish to thank them for their cooperation; a few members did much more than duty required, and to them we are especially grateful. Further, we thank Earl Galle who took most of the organization pic- tures in the book. His excellent photography contributes in a large measure to the quality of the yearbook. We also thank all of the business and professional people who advertised in the Pioneer. Their interest enables us to publish a yearbook at a cost within reason for most of the students. Finally we thank Mrs. Runnels. Without her help this edition of the 1972 Pioneer would have never reached its deadlines.
