There he had to convince school board members such as John Conway (Larry Verthein) and a six- foot bully, Guy Hawkins (Ken King) that education pays. Winning a fight against Guy, a contest against Lands- burgh School, and the competition with Bill Coffee (Bill McMillen) for Naomi Dean (Kathleen Jacobs) brings him just the rewards he hoped for. In the 7 game season they scored 208 points while completely shutting-out their opponents. In all departments statistics show how the Pioneers dominated play. They gained 1,900 yards compared with 413 yards for the opposition. They scored the first time they had the ball in every game. They had 73 first downs compared with 34. They had a rushing average of 5.75 yards per carry com- pared to 0.87 yards per carry for the opposition. They intercepted 6 passes to 2 for the opponents. They had great goal line stands to preserve their perfect season. They gained undisputed title to the Central C Conference Championship and recognition in statewide small school ratings. Their victories were great team efforts but their were individual stars. Fullback Allan Guderski and Halfback Ken Thalacker divided the rushing honors with 466 and 545 yards respectively. Dennis Lloyd led receivers with 8 catches for 135 yards and 3 touchdowns. Quarterback Vendon Leach completed 18 of 35 passes for_ 284 yards.
