In Latin, the essentials of this dead language are taught, since it serves as the basis for practically all modern languages. The interest of the student body in German, resulted in its ad- dition to the curriculum this year. Home Economics Mrs. Merle Shurpit, Home Economics, instructs the Westfield High School girls for future home- making. Her subject matter covers cooking, sewing, home furnishings, child care, personal grooming, care of the sick, and guidance for married life. Mrs. Shurpit’s advanced home economics students are making useful decorative boxes. Mr. Kaczmarek, from his bandaged finger, shows no signs of pain as compared to Roger Mashack who is figuring out those difficult income tax forms. Business Education Mr. Norbert Kaczmarek, Business Ed- ucation, through the courses of typing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and office prac- tice prepares students for vocational needs and personal-use objectives. - 6 -

Agriculture Mr. Richard Arnold, Agriculture, is responsible in his program for practical shop work with wood and metals, classroom study of technical agriculture, practical applica- tion of classroom learning through farm pro- jects, and social aspects of leadership de- velopment as found in the Ag Club. Mr. Arnold is showing his Ag Students how to use a band saw safely and correctly. Art Mrs. Lula Sanford. Art, covers the basic fundamentals of art such as complementary colors, perspective drawing, con- struction work, and metal enameling to teach her students the values of art appreciation. The art class gayly decorates our main room throughout the various seasons of the year. In the spring, art is combined with music to produce the Music and Art Festival.
