Those carefree Juniors sailed through another busy year with Paul Christopher as president, Tom Collins as vice-president, Dean Alexander as secretary, and Harlan Fausch as treasurer. Elected to represent the class on the Student Council were Ken Giese and Dean Alexander. Joanne Severson was their Homecoming Candidate. The class rings arrived, were worn, traded, and worn again. Lockers in debris, borrowed pencils, cheering at the games, the teasing, the huddles over the sports page at noon in the library. These things are part of the life of a Junior. Their student council representatives were Dennis Weir and Mary Sharon Runnels. Karen Kolbeck, their Homecoming candidate, reigned as queen with Roger Clark as her king. Discussions in the hot lunch line, books lugged home to sit on while watching TV, jokes about underclassmen, upperclassmen, and the faculty, the swapping of assignments, there are the pieces that fit into the puzzle of a Sophomore’s life. Roger Clark Treasurer Sophomore Typing Class takes time out to have their picture taken. They chose Karen Buchholtz as their president, Kay Buch- holtz as their vice-president, Nancy Kitchen as their secretary, and Vin- cent Johnson as treasurer. Janet Fiess and Eugene Meyer were selectea as their representatives on the Student Council When Homecoming rolled around, Mary Schatzka was selected as their candidate. Forgotten locker combinations, almost-missed classes, minor con- fusion, lost books, fun of initiation, and good spirited moments will ail be remembered as part of their Freshman year. THIRD ROW: Wenzel, Stelter, Brockway, Graf. FOURTH ROW: Mr. Latzig, Instructor; Warzynski, Russell. This year has been the first for our newly formed Art Class. This class is noncompulsory and no credit is given for it. It was formed simply for those who enjoy art. The work began with the simpler sketches showing perspective and has advanced to the use of pastels. It is thought that some of the work done this year will be entered in the next annual Milwaukee Journal Art Contest. Next year, if the class is continued, members hope to work with oils and also try tinting photography. AUTOGRAPHS STUDENT COUNCIL Harold Schwochert presided as president of the Student Council this year, with Ken Giese, vice-president; Mary Sharon Runnels, secretary; and treasurer, Sharon Kopp. The Council raised its funds from the candy and pop machines, the magazine campaign, the Vaudeville Show, and the Council movies. It sponsored the assembly programs, the Christmas party and the All-School Picnic. Part of the funds were used to complete payment of the stage-lighting system. The Student Council advisor is Mr. Johnson. Here's a salute to those who worked for the benefit of us all. FIRST ROW DOWN: Eugene Meyers, Dennis Weir, Dean Alexander, Allan Chilewski, Charlene Lyon, Janet Fiess. SECOND ROW DOWN: Sharon Kopp, Mary Sharon Runnels, Kenneth Giese, Harold Schwochert, President. NEWSPAPER STAFF Odor of glue, chaos at deadlines, lost articles, busy, busy typists, chit-chatter, sailing rulers, lots of fun, and a great deal of satisfaction....This is one way to describe what The Clarion means to its staff. This year under the editing of Nancy Dewar, The Clarion has supplied all its subscribers with all the news in and around school, plus a little entertainment de- rived from the special feature articles. Ten members of the Clarion Family have spent their last year working on the paper and will be missed next year. There have been many hours of effort put into the production of The Clarion this year, and the entire staff deserves recognition. FIRST ROW: Mary Collins, Rochelle Gailbraith, Arlene Brakebush, Mary Ellen Thiede, Nancy Dewar, Editor; Mr. Kaczmarek, Bill Brakebush. SECOND ROW: Cynthia Linaberry, Harold Schwochert, Karren Collins, Norlene Schwanke, Nancy Swanke, Shirley Hamilton, Joanne Severson, Kenneth Meyer, Jack Wenzal, Mary Sharon Runnels, Patricia Wardzala. Under the guidance of Mr. Kaczmarek this year's Annual Staff brings to you the 1957 Pioneer. The staff members proved to be very efficient and energetic by ignoring the many obstacles that constantly blocked their paths. The planning of pages, writing of copy, typing, pasting, and a million and one little extras were all blended together by the staff to produce a Pioneer that is truly worthy of the school and students it represents. SEATED (at the table left to right): Jaan Gohlke, Mary Collins, Mary Ellen Thiede, Monica Rank, Sally Wandry, Norlene Schwanke, Sharon Kopp, Martha Wruck, Idella Buschke. The hours and hours of practice, the timeouts when every- one laughed, played cool records, and relaxed will be hours that can be tucked away to be brought out on rainy days to be cherished. There was work, of course, but Miss La Fontaine approved of the fun too. Roger and George jazzing up their lines, Nancy and Dennis sneak- ing up and stabbing each other, the operators dashing on and off the stage, and Dian and Gloria ringing their bells are all events that will be remembered by the actors. SHOWN IN REHEARSAL ARE (standing left to right): Norlene Schwanke, Darlene Shurpit, Mary Ellen Thiede, Jaan Gohlke, Jack Wenzal, Glenn Thalacker. SEATED (left to right): Gretchen Swader, Beth Dewar.
