And now their second year began. Having be- come better adjusted to high school, they learned that their class could participate in many activities. To begin the year, they selected N. Dewar and J. Wenzel to be Student Council members. Mr. Brenholt, Miss Luedtke, and Mr. Clark were their class advisors. As one of their money-making schemes, each member of the class brought homemade candy which was sold. Their first big activity was sponsoring the Home- coming Dance. Mary Ellen Thiede, who was their candidate, won the contest and became Homecoming Queen. As the school year came to a close, they looked forward with enthusiasm to their next year as Juniors. On the eventful day of Sept. 8, 1954, fifty-five Freshmen enrolled in Westfield Union Free High School. They were determined to do their best throughout the coming years. On the memorable day of October 21, they were rushed to the gym to be initiated; all came through with flying colors. The Student Council members that have repre- sented the “greenies” were J. Severson and K. Giese. Mrs. Shurpit, Miss Chapman, and Mr. Boron were their class advisors. When Homecoming rolled around, they selected Kathleen Maager as their candidate for Homecoming Queen.
