Y - I . - 1 - 1 1 1 1 1 - - 1 1 ' ' 1 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 SE IOR CLASS HISTORY The class of 1959 began its first day at Westfield High School in September 1955 First we learned that our class sponsor was to be Mr Angelo Fioroni Our class officers for our freshman year were Victor Cox aleskr President Darby Cowles Vice President Austin Morris Secretary and San dra Chmurt as Historian Student Council Representatives were elected they wtre oanne Saltus Frances Chapman Ruth Blood and Martha David Our class colors were first chosen to be pink and grey but were later changed to blue and white Wisdom Honor and Success was voted for our class motto and the flower is the carnatron At our Freshmen Party entertainment was provided by Dick Hamilton The hrghltght of our Freshmen year was our trip to New York City where we visited the United Nations and then went to see the Tender Trap at Radio City At last we became sophomores' We were sure of our selves in everything we did as we were upperclassmen To oanne Saltus Vice President Darby Cowles Secretary Ly nn Holmes Treasurer and Martha Daud Historian Our Student Council Representatives were elected again they were Ruth Blood Victor Covaleskt Austin Morris and Frances Chapman During our sophomore year we ordered our class rings Another year has gone by and we became uniors The first important step was the receiving our our class rings Next we elected our class officers William Boyle was chosen as President Robert MacLenna as Vice President Sandra Chmura as Treasurer Polly Ward as Secretary and Mary Ann Deedy as Historian Representing the junior Class on Stu dent Council were Robert MacLenna Austin Morris Frances Chapman and Victor Covaleskr As we were now uniors it was necessary for us to have a class banner Many entries were submitted for us to choose from and the one designed by ohn Burek was chosen This was to be displayed at the junior Senior Prom For Host and Hostess of the Prom we chose Frances Chapman and Robert MacLenna Taking part in graduation exercises as marshals were Victor Covaleski and Ruth Blood At last the long awaited day comes-the class of 1959 are now Seniors Elections were held for the last trme and we elected Robert MacLenna as our President Others elected were Terry Beauregard Vice President Austin Morris Treas urer Darby Cowles Secretary and Mary Ann Deedy His torian To the Student Council we elected Victor Covaleski Ruth Blood William Boyle and Austin Morris Many class projects were put on by the class as a whole or by different homerooms in order to raise money to cover the expenses of our Senior year The most successful of these was the Faculty Varsity Game in which the Varsity played the Teachers and the senior girls played the senior boys The Senior junior Prom was held on May 15 and as Host and Hostess we chose Victor Covaleskr and Betsy Wehrly Commrttees chosen in the homerooms made up the banquet committee and our class banquet was held on May 27 at Stanley Park A won derful trme was had by everyone The class will and prophecy the banquet Graduatron practice became important in the last weeks of school Under the wonderful direction of Mrs Coffin we learned our class song which was written by Ed ward Clark and our graduation song Ill Walk With God Our last day at Westfield High School had at last come june 17 1959 will always be remembered by every member of the graduating class We marched into the Armory to re ceive our diplomas very proudly The girls wore white gowns and the boys gowns were blue The tassels were a mixture of blue and white with Pro Merito members having gold tassels Our class President Robert MacLenna gave the welcoming speech and other speeches were given by the three top honor students Edward Clark Richard Gero and Edward Kamrn ski We received our diplomas and left our high school life behind us We are no longer a class but individuals each on his own We will always remember and be grateful to every one who helped to make our four years at Westfield High School a success Mary Ann Deedy Historian , U V . They have beaten West Springneld and Easthampton and played close matches with Tech and Chicopee. Greenfield and Turners Falls, the leagues strongest teams have had to put up a strong fight with Westneld, just showing the team's determina- tion. Mr. Gammons deserves a great deal of credit for help- ing the boys' game immensely.
