SENTIMENTAL JOURN What a day' The sun shone brilliantly through the white laden clouds as one and all stirred from their blissful sleep in September 1952 To Older Folks this day was nothing special but just another autumn day but to a selected group of one hundred eighty odd students this was the day We eagerly started for our destination on Smith Avenue wh n low and behold a monster loomed up ahead' We stopped dead in our tracks only to learn from passerbys that this was to be our home for the next four years This was Westfield High School' On this day we had the pleasure to meet one of the finest persons at Westfield High School Class Sponsor Miss Myrtle I Pushor Somehow we managed to keep our heads above water during the following weeks We elected as Class Officers Barbara Capan President Pat Kondelka Vice Presx dent oanne Rockwal Secretary oan Lucas Historian white rose as our flower Being the Centennial Class we chose as our class motto Honor Non Honores The event of the year for most of us was the Freshman Sophomore Party a gala affair eyoyed by all The following fall we entered the school a little more confident and brave We were Sophomores' We elected Gail Weidhas as President Harry Lane as Vice Presi dent L11 Kelley as Secretary and Nancy Laudato as Historian Again we atteneded the Freshmen Sopho more Party which was a great success Another year was once again in sight as we hastily prepared for school the following September We were now upperclassmen and looked up to by the under classmen Again on October 1 195-4 we selected Class Officers Sally Aiken was elected President Dick Mlyer Vice President ohanne Rockwal Secretary Nancy Laudato Historian We were the first class to sell Community Birthday Calendars to raise funds On December 18th peals of excitement and shuffling were heard around the cor ridors The juniors had just received their class rings EY which were a new 3 D style Judy Reinert designed our banner which IS similiar to our school seal Miniature copies of the banners were sold to ruse funds for this extra special class Finally the big moment came for most of us The junior Senior Prom was held on Miy 1954 at the Armory We selected as Host and Hostess Harry Lane and Gail Weidhas After three years of waiting we the Class of 1955 now emerged as SENIORS Suddenly literature of various campaign slogans appeared in every nick and corner Finally the Class of 1955 selected their Class Officers President Peter Elefterakis Vice President Ronald Reopel Secretary Nancy Laudato Historian Anne Curran The Centennial year 1955 was ushered in and a new world loomed ahead of us We were kept qu1te titled Sentimental journey under the direction of Mrs Thelma Chambers Thomas Various committees were chosen such as the Ban quet Cap and Gown Gift and numerous un1or Senior Prom committees Sally Aiken and Wally Neff were selected by the Class as Host and Hostess The Prom this year was held on May 6 1955 Preparation for graduation was well under Way by this time and we sadly awaited the big night which was june 10th During the Senior Assembly a colorful spectacle was seen by students and teachers as one hundred eigthy two wet eyed Senlors slowly glided along the aisles The boys were clothed in blue gowns with a white tassle and the girls were arrayed in white gowns with a blue tassle Farewells to our friends and teachers were made and we the Class of 1955 proceeded along our destined paths Although we got out into the world as new recruits we certainly are not afra1d for we shall always place honor before honors remembering we were the Class of 1955 The Centennial Class ANNE CURRAN . . , I 4, ,, .
