Displaying rugged determination in the face of stiff competition, this year's football team turned in a very laudable performance playing a brand of football filled with more than the usual amount of thrills. The well-drilled Bomber formation peeled off against opposition to the tune of 4 wins in 8 starts. Maybe this isnit as good a record as it could have been, but records can't give a picture of the spirit and fight these fellows showed on the playing field. Leading the Bomber attack was Walt Kowalczyk, outstanding halfback, playing his final season at W.H.S. Walt, better known as Red, has been rated by Coach Jenkins as the best halfback hefs seen in fifteen years. We take special pride in the fact that he won, because of his outstanding ability in sports, the Harry Agganis Sports Award. Other seniors who contributed to a good season were John Enko and Pete Butlter as endsg Ronnie Smith, Bill Mayhew. and Carl Bednarsky, displayed some snappy back- field running. Danny Rumplik, John Plummer, Dick Hamann, Pete Kimball, Stan Herman and Dick Van Heynigan did well in the line duty, though injuries sidelined Kimball and Herman. Also in the fray and showing good results were many underclassmen. Joe Burek, Bill Puza, Burt Chistolini, Alfred Rehor, Ron Reopel, Nick Riga, and Jim Risko, as well as John Gros, Bill Tencro, Wayne Damron, and Brent Fer- riter all deserve mention. Westfield had a good representation on the Western Mass. teams with Co-Captains Red Ko- walczyk and Johnnie Enko making first and second team, respectively. With a large squad returning next year to form the nucleus for a heavy line, plus a light but fast backfield, all indications point toward another good team. A first down af F CL?
